2 nice wins to win that tournament. Defense has definitely been crazy good. The other night that same Quinnipiac team that snuck by us lost to top 10 Texas by 1. JMU and Elon are still going to be teams to beat, but right now we are looking real good, especially on defense.

RE: Women's Basketball 2019
Our women are on the road at La Salle this evening in what should be a blowout. La Salle has not won a game yet and most of their games have been utter blowouts including to Towson by 24. I am sure there will be lulls in the game, but this is a game that we should be able to get out early and put them away. Hopefully we do not look past them and play down to their level. Our defense should be able to keep the trend in this one and hold La Salle under 45, if not under 40 in this one.

Drexel WBB team is now #1 in the nation in scoring defense at 43 PPG.

They are also ranked #11 in the collegeinsider.com mid-major poll.

I didn't see any of the game tonight because I was at the DAC, but another really nice defensive effort as Drexel takes down hapless La Salle 58-43 at The Tom.

La Salle's basketball teams are a combined 0-13 so far this year....OUCH!!!!

I did not see or listen as well but I was surprised it was this close. Low scoring for our gals against that caliber of a team. But definitely good to hold them to another low scoring game. Always good to get a win. Keep rolling.

I only got to catch the final 2 minutes of tonight's game, but another solid defensive effort beating Manhattan on their home court 53-39. Dragons came into the game ranked 7th in the mid-major poll. They have won 6 in a row and are tied for the best start in program history.

You followed that with a 71-63 loss to 6-3 Wright State. The RPI doesn't like your SOS. You're 155th in the RPI, and you're closer to Hofstra, who is second worst in the CAA, than to Northeastern, who is the best. Northeastern is one of 20 undefeated teams, and one of 6 undefeated teams outside the top six conferences.

You're much better than La Salle, who is one of 9 teams to be winless against Division I teams in Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball. La Salle and McNeese are the only ones who are not HBCUs.

RE: Women's Basketball 2019
We did not play murder's row but it was an above average schedule. Wright State likely wins the horizon. They are a solid team. Would have been nice to grab that victory. We played 3 good teams and went 1-2 in those games. Won the easy games we should have won. Both losses (Quinnipiac and Wright State) went down to the wire. 1 point loss to Quinnipiac and an OT loss to Wright State. The schedule and wins would not have been an at large anyhow, so this was a good schedule for our relative young team. RPI can hate our SOS but we would be shocked if we are not a top 3 CAA team

RE: Women's Basketball 2019
It was a disappointing loss, but one thing to note is that this was a 3 team tournament, so the schedule did not work in Drexel's favor. Drexel's game against WS was their 2nd in 24 hours. WS did not play on Friday night so they entered the game well rested. So a non-rested Drexel team still managed to battle a well rested team ranked among the best Mid Majors to OT. Now Drexel is going to have quite a bit of rest of the next several weeks. They have just 3 games over a 26 day stretch with all games spread apart. All 3 are very winnable games. The Penn game might be tough, but it's at the DAC, so it's a game that Drexel should be able to win.

I would be very surprised if Northeastern actually wins the CAA. They have a good team but Drexel still has a better win than anything they have on their schedule in Bucknell. My bet is, at least this year, JMU and Drexel still finish higher.

After a pretty long break our ladies play Gardner Webb. This should not be a game that gives us too much trouble. Hopefully the rust gets worn off quickly. Gardner Webb has also not played since the 8th.

I'm looking forward to going to the game today, and it's a game they really need to win. I figure that the WSU loss was partially due to the scheduling issues of having 3 teams in a tournament. Denise's teams usually play well when they're well rested. Finals week is over, and they should be focused and ready to go.

Dragons win 65-48. Nice to see Nihill putting up some points.

RE: Women's Basketball 2019
That was a sloppy foul filled game today. Drexel as usual had trouble putting the ball in the basket early, but they were still able to build a 25 point lead thanks to great defense and poor GW shooting. After that, the game was as ugly a basketball game as you could see. GW was able to get the score down to 13, but Drexel pretty much took care of business at the foul line in the 2nd half to seal the win. Their next game is against Penn on Friday morning, and they'll really have to step it up offensively if they want to win.

Friday's game will definitely be a challenge and a good test to see where we truly are. We are 1-2 against quality teams. UPenn would be the next quality team. Penn has also beaten Siena (by 7 vs. 12 by us), St Joes (by 20 vs. 17 by us) and LaSalle (by 30 vs. 15 by us). Penn's only 2 losses were by 20 to Notre Dame and by 1 against Maine (whose losses are to Duke, Green Bay and NC State with an upcoming game against Northeastern). Should definitely be a good one. Hopefully that is a game that is represented well in attendance for the students.

There should be a lot of students at Friday's game, but I'm guessing that they'll all be between 8-12 years old, and probably won't care much about the game. Drexel is on winter break now and it's an 11:30 AM game for grade school students to attend.

Oh boy. My daughter and I are going to be there. I guess we need to get tickets in advance and maybe even reserved seats. Thanks for the warning. Get ready for the high pitched screaming.
