MBB - Game 1 High Point
HPU Men's Basketball
@HPUMBB
Next up, we take on William & Mary in the season opener next Wednesday #GoHPU
High Point Panthers
@HighPointSports
.@HPUMBB Defeats Guilford, 81-45, in Exhibition #GoHPU (link: http://bit.ly/2P1MxtM) bit.ly/2P1MxtM

Hard to believe only one week away. Just one HP starter not back from last season's fiasco. Tubby's debut. Three Virginians in their starting lineup. Needs to be some payback mentality with our group. Knight should eat Berlin up. Will be a test with their guard/wing oriented game to see how serious we are about defense, as well as, how we handle pressure sans Cohn.

A treat to have a home opener. Go Tribe!!

Let's go! It is basketball season!

Solid OOC record would be huge for confidence going into the CAA. And that solid record starts with this game.

Go Tribe!

When it comes to candy, if chocolate isn't involved, what is the point?

Kind of like no-alcohol beer.

I have had no alcohol for over 25 years (just gave it up) and enjoy high-quality non-alcoholic beer. I also rank chocolate based desserts well below sweets like bread pudding, creme brulee, rice pudding, fried plantains, and toffee roasted almonds. Payday > a chocolate bar. I guess I'm not invited to your tailgate.

This whole post is not only strange, but bizarre. Next you will be touting the greatness of black licorice. (correct answer = it's awful)

Think our moderator got distracted from the thread topic. Maybe chocolate and alcoholic beer are undermining his conscious focus... :-}

RE: High Point
Among other things, I am very interested to see the attendance numbers for Wednesday's game.

I am hopeful that the excitement from last year's success and this year's potential will increase our attendance and perhaps even create something of a home court advantage.

The High Point Enterprise tweets:

“The High Point University men’s basketball will still be short on depth again when it opens the season Wednesday at William & Mary.”

RE: MBB - Game 1 High Point
Expect Nate to have a big night tonight. HP's strength are their guards, not their interior. They, especially, will not be able to run the floor with him, though HP wants to play uptempo.

Hope Luke is relaxed and plays to his strengths, not someone else's shoes. It's a new era. Tonight is a good night to begin his time.

So, I vote that Mehkel will get his first collegiate block tonight, of many to come before he finishes his four years.

RE: MBB - Game 1 High Point
My recollections from last year are that HP shot out of their mind, no doubt in large part to our poor defense. We allowed them to start hot and after that, even when we did get a hand in their face, they were hitting. I also recall too many turnovers and that we could not keep their guards in front of us, which led to foul trouble for Nathan.

So, this time around, I'm hoping for the opposite. That we don't allow unmolested drives into the paint. That Nathan doesn't get into early foul trouble, so he can stay on the floor and dominate the paint on offense.

I'm most excited to see Luke as the starting PG. I went to a different practice than the HC open practice and liked what I saw. It was apparent to me that Luke has worked on his offensive game and shot and brings a lot to the defensive end of the court.

Let's get it started. Go Tribe!

That is about what I remember. So disappointing. Especially when High Point ended up being such a bad team (sub .500 with a 273 rpi) . To take that next step, the Tribe simply cannot have stinkers like that against average / below average teams.
