We might have to steal some of those from US Bank, but I have to think some of those events might prefer a more intimate gathering in a nicer arena with newer amenities and comfort.

This is probably a little preliminary, and I'm almost reluctant to share this, but the newly renovated arena has attracted pretty strong interest from the National Arena Soccer League. From what I understand, it's more or less a done deal, and a team will begin play next winter. They had to wait until after this season because the soccer team needs a 4 to 5 month window to make some changes to the current design. It's not going to be a huge impact, but it will require some seats to be removed and reconfigured in the lower bowl.

Maybe before they ruined it's aesthetic by cutting out a bunch of seats. Now it looks like sh!t.

And replaced classy brick walls with ugly ass concrete. Plus, nothing says 'top class facility' like porto-lets. 03-lmfao

Yes. Thank you. I am not alone in disliking how they did the renovation.

I would take the remodeled Nippert any day over PBS. Talk about a sterile, low energy, concrete mausoleum. The Club at Nippert blows away the outdated and cheap PBS club.

The point of athletics is to promote the university. Revenue from tickets, concessions, etc is a nice bonus, but that's not the primary goal.

I agree with the OP that UC should be promoting this far and wide. IMO we now have the two best athletic facilities in Ohio.

This. Promotion is not just for selling season seats. UC needs to deliver their vision and create the narrative. As stated above, UC now has the 2 best sport's venues in the region/state. Why not tell your story?

The Cincinnati regions bball arena hierarchy now is 1) UC 2) NKU 3) US Bank 4) eggs

Good ranking! I remember visiting Cintas for the first time years ago for a graduation ceremony and trying to reach the other side of the arena from the concourse only to run into a solid wall. There is no full perimeter concourse. It was never easy in the old 5th/3rd to walk the perimeter--it required climbing some stairs in the end zones, but you could do it. The unknown at this point is the noise factor. The old arena, for all its faults could be deafening when filled. Here's hoping we didn't lose that home court advantage with the volume level in the new configuration.

Having just attended tonight's game, I found plenty to ***** about but will hold off in case some things just need a bit of time and practice (concession workers) or not completed in time (video boards to show information available in the old arena that was totally missing tonight).

But I will ***** about the useless and distracting ribbon boards. Way too bright and flash enough to induce a seizure. Sitting in the first row of the upper deck it is really hard to tune them out as I have trained myself to do at Nippert.

BB&T is better for actually watching the game. Not even close in my opinion.

Maybe it depends on where you're sitting. My seats are 100x better than ones at a similar location in that dump across the river.

upper level center court row 14. I felt closer at NKU and could actually see if someone sat in front of me. In terms of value, not even close. Basically they didn’t fix the upper level problem of how difficult it is too see if someone sits in front of you. Add in the obstruction and the seats are not worth it. Looking to move to a different section next year.

Where the are the championship banners?

Sat in the 1st row of upper deck and loved the seats. Arena is much much better. Still working out the kinks with concessions I hope. I have been told they are not finished. So the banners should be coming. Found the new scoreboard and ribbon boards just fine. Very modern and similar to nba. Still stand by my comments that this is the best b-ball arena in the tri-state. UC now has the two best sports venues in Cincinnati.

seeing mostly great reports on Twitter. I never had an issue with seeing when someone sat in front of me in the past so interested in seeing if that's the issue im reading it is from one specific poster.

My new seats are a lot closer than at NKU. The problem with that place was the basketball floor was sitting out on a cement slab in the middle of an empty space, making the side line seats feel a million miles away. New facility much more intimate. Now, if they can just start putting some basic statistical info on the big new boards during the game...

Bohn tweeted it was supposed to happen, they just experienced some technical difficulties with the hook up last night.

This game was not just an exhibition for the players.

RE: New Fifth Third: best sports venue in Cincy?
Sec 201, Row 8 over here. Have gone to just about every home game since 2005. Easily the best arena in the tri-state. It was awesome.

With that said, here are my nitpicks:
- Sound system and lighting needs worked on. Should see improvement in this before the OSU game, I would think.
- Not enough concessions and restrooms on the upper level. If attendance is going to higher than we've averaged over the last decade, we're in trouble up top.
- It's funny someone mentioned the seating because the first thing my buddy and I talked about after people sat down in front of us was that we didn't feel like we were positioned high enough to clearly see over them. I was constantly moving my head left and right to see around the guy in front of me, and he wasn't some 7 foot monster.
- Also, not happy with parking. I've been in the Calhoun garage since '09 and got Campus Green for whatever reason this year. I get it; I'm not a high dollar donor. Just a loyal plebeian.

Again, excellent arena. Hard to believe it's the same building. Definitely feels "big time", and I'm excited to go to every game this year. Doesn't mean it's perfect, though.

RE: New Fifth Third: best sports venue in Cincy?
This from the local fish wrap today ...

The concourse walls are covered in history without being overbearing about it. (Hey Bengals, you too can do this!) “It’s not antiseptic when you walk in. It screams UC,’’ said Ryan Koslen, UC’s Associate Athletic Director for Communications.

Some walls remain empty, but that’s only because the place just opened and UC’s staffers haven’t had the time to sufficiently flex their creativity. The gym remains a work in progress. “Anywhere you see a blank wall, there will be something,’’ said Koslen. “We just don’t know what it is yet. It’s like giving your 16-year-old kid the keys to the Maserati.’’

... seems more to come ...

From my understanding the national championship banners aren't hung yet, right?

Wonder if they might make an appearance for the OSU game....05-stirthepot
