That was the best thing Jones did. We have too many students, alums and residents in this town supporting other programs—- that’s the major reason why we are in the AAC. TV knows our market is so divided over half the town is watching the B10 game on another station instead of the Bearcats.
No question in my mind, we need more fans and more passionate fans. Not that we need more of the OSU/UK obnoxious sycophants, but more Red and Black around this town would certainly make a stronger statement.
UC football is still playing catch up for share of mind. The 2009 undefeated season was the culmination of what began slowly under Rick Minter and accelerated when Dantonio and the Big East rolled into town. UC students from the past decade jumped on board and stayed. Fickell seems poised to sustain on-field success which is a critical component.
But consistently filling Nippert/Fifth Third Arena makes a major statement on national TV. UC's P5 aspirations reside with alumni and fans to some degree. A half empty Nippert on TV for a game would look more like the MAC than the ACC. Appearances do matter.
Tomorrow vs Navy on a nice November Sat afternoon should be a full house if there is going to be one. Service academy games are special!

If I had to guess, the only "big" program with an opening in the off season would be USC, and their next hire is staring them in the face with Tedford IMO.
Barring another Urby "health issue" and/or some teams deciding to eat humungous buyouts (Auburn and FSU), that's really the only one I could see.
