With Huber and O'Donnell we had a bit of a tradition of having good punters help our teams out...just wanted to recognize James Smith for a bit.

This season:

36 Punts
46.3 average (9th in NCAA)
43.0 average net (8th in NCAA)
42 total return yards allowed (14th in NCAA)
14 punts inside the 20 (7th in NCAA)
2.8% touchback rate (5th in NCAA)

Career:
100 Punts
44.1 average
42.4 average net
111 return yards allowed (longest single return allowed is 11 yards)
35 punts inside the 20
1 Touchback...

Those stats are absolutely ridiculous for those who know punting and how big of an impact it can have on the game.

Kudos to Mr. Smith. I will admit to falling into the trap of thinking that that part of our team is almost automatic. Doesn't matter the conditions or point of the game or spot on the field, Mr. Smith is going to do something impressive. He's a great find

Smith and Warren were the UC stars of the game this past weekend.

I love his net yardage. Many can kick it a long way, but he does it in a way that minimizes return yardage.

It's funny, you never really think about it this way, but every extra yard on a punt is another yard the offense must travel to score. That 72 yard boomer might as well have been two 15-yard penalties for the OWLs

What's amazing is when you watch him kick is it looks like he's not even trying. He has no follow thru and just sort of pops his foot at the ball, but man, can that guy kick...
