Maryland

In September. Having the loss then works in their favor. Now if they had that bad of a loss in November, it would be another issue.

Nope. As long as Maryland loses more, that loss continues to sting and won't be forgotten.

Texas absolutely is not out of the playoffs discussion, it's just that Oklahoma is the stronger potential Big 12 candidate so when discussing these scenarios it makes sense to discuss them as the "best possible" Big 12 rep.

It's not just them losing more.... It's that the comparison between Texas to Ohio St and Michigan will get framed in a large way by performances vs Maryland
Texas loses 34-29 to Maryland
Michigan beat Maryland 42-21
Ohio St yet to play Maryland

What is interesting about that Ohio St/Maryland game is that it's really a trap type of game. Week before Ohio St plays Michigan St. Week after is Michigan.

It could be, if Maryland was capable of setting a trap for anyone. But they aren't. 07-coffee3

First game of the season with a young QB and a young team. And Maryland an unpredictable team because of all the issues they have. And I think they lost their dual threat QB after the Texas game.

Now Texas hasn't been blowing everyone out. They've squeaked by some mediocre teams. But the Maryland game doesn't hurt them nearly as much as Purdue hurts Ohio St.

If Ohio St blows out Maryland- you better believe it will.. If Texas lost to Maryland and Michigan/Ohio St blow the doors off Maryland? Yeah that will matter....... The common data point would matter a lot.....

Oh, and you are thinking of last year with Maryland losing QB.

Purdue is a team that is improving every week - all the losses were close (4, 1, and 3) and now are on a 4 game win-streak with every win in double digits.

Admittedly Purdue has been playing good football here lately but those three losses were to NW, Mizzou, and EMU. So no matter how you spin it, they're not good losses (at least for a team capable of beating OSU).

RE: coaches poll 10/21
I posted when Purdue started 0-3 that they’d rebound to make a bowl. They were 3-4 plays from 3-0 and package Rondale Moore’s shiftiness in Brohm’s scheme with finding their QB in Blough and the Boilermakers were bound to take off.

Purdue is a top 25 caliber team that won’t finish there because they started slow. Most improved team throughout the year.

If Purdue can finish 3-2 the rest of the way to finish 7-5 they could possibly be ranked.... 4-1 they will be ranked....

If it cones down to the margin of victory- how in the hell does Ohio St control their own destiny and Oklahoma doesn't????
Painful as it is ... that's ironclad. If margin of victory is a tie breaker, it's not entirely in either team's hands.

Sad to say that I'm old enough to remember Purdue seeming like the Buckeye's bete noir in the 80's, since AFAIR that was just 2 losses to Purdue in the decade, while Purdue seems to be winning about a third of the time since the turn of the century.

I have what the Ozzies would call a barracking interest in the Big12 OSU anyways, but I'm really cheering for a big rivalry road game upset in Bedlam this year.

How many other 1 loss teams are there? Its a reflection of the competition.

I know, quality loss and all that ESpin jizz you guys swallow. Pathetic.

Yep...

OSU has had issues all season. From not being able to stop the run to really not being able to run the ball after the Rutgers game. With the OSU defense struggling against the run, it has exposed their secondary.

No. It's a reflection there are only 3 undefeated p5 teams and only 12 1 loss p5 teams. Eventually no matter how flawed a team is- they're going to run out of competition.
