Devry and UofPhoenix degrees are accredited too. Changes nothing. Liberty would love that the narrative continue about them not getting an invite because of cultural fit issues. It's a lot simpler than that.

You’re smart enough to know there’s differences in accreditation. Liberty online is accredited by the same agency that accredits Duke, UNC, UVA, etc. devry and Phoenix are not. The fact they didn’t get an invite is a blessing in disguise. Their schedules are phenomenal moving forward.

  • Baylor

  • TCU
  • Ivy League

  • Duke
  • Oxford
  • SMU
  • MANY OTHERS

Before you cast stones at Liberty, you should research and be certain of your own schools' history & online presence.

I do not think highly of Baylor. You are talking about a school that had a coach try to obstruct justice in the murder of a player to prevent anyone from finding out how widespread and over-the-top their NCAA violations were, then followed that up with being exposed as not only trying to cover up sexual assaults of students, they threatened victims with punishment if they pursued their claims.
But Liberty hired the AD from the sex assault scandal and his best argument was that the whole school was dirty and they just swept the rest while exposing athletics, never mind that, that isn't a denial it happened.

SMU? The school that got death because they were paying players while on probation for paying players?

The Ivy League schools who fought against admitting women? The schools with endowments so large they could literally admit every student for free and not draw down their endowments yet continue to charge an arm and leg?

Pepperdine? The school who hired Ken Starr solely because he was the special prosecutor who struck out on the first four or five investigations of Clinton and then finally "got him" because he certainly wasn't hired for his academic leadership experience oh yeah and he left for Baylor where the scandals happened on his watch.

If those of the peers of Liberty, you aren't doing Liberty any favors.

Say, would you happen to know any schools in Arkansas, with over 4,500 current online students, that were started at the behest of a Missionary Baptist preacher who've forfeited wins and had Department heads changing athletes grades to keep them eligible?

I do.

And, I wasn't saying those schools were "peers" of Liberty, just that they have religious backgrounds which is the real crux of the issue with most people.

None of those schools have accountability to elected officials. None of them face the possibility of the taxpayers turning off the spigot if they cannot conduct themselves properly. As Christian I am extremely offended when an institution that holds itself out as Christian in its code of conduct tells people that if they tell the truth about being sexually assaulted they will be expelled for example. So yep, I do treat religious schools differently.

I view Bobby Petrino whose personal brand is winning at most any cost differently from Hugh Freeze whose personal brand is built on his faith. Bobby acts like a bad human there is no shock because he's never claimed to be anything other than a football coach. He's never held himself up as an example to anyone other than other coaches desiring to win.

Maybe that's a dumb distinction but it's mine and I'm sticking with it because it is consistent with my faith and beliefs.

We don’t need or want an invite. That’s not what this conversation is about. It’s about accreditation which you’ve proved to know nothing about. No hard feelings. You’re FBS, We’re FBS. At the end of the day, you play the game and go home. People’s beliefs don’t play into a game. If you can’t play against people of differing beliefs than it shows how divisive and sad our country has gotten.

Actually before the hijack it was about football which just illustrates yet again that the mods are going to let any Liberty talk veer further off-topic.

Until mods start disciplining people for hijacking (if that’s even possible, 10 day suspension etc) people will always veer off topic unfortunately. Any Liberty discussion on these forums should be about the game, facilities, etc. once it becomes hateful, mods should discipline that person. If anyone wants to bash LU due to its founder, past, current president, beliefs, etc than start a thread in a non athletics area. My point to Panama was the discussion he started having was about accreditation.

The problem has been that every Liberty thread on this board has turned into something like this thread has, people explaining their reasons as to why they don't like the school. It's okay if you don't like them for what they preach or how they conduct business, but it's gets old hearing the same thing in multiple threads that are meant primarily for athletic discussions.

Congrats Liberty on beating Troy, even though they were down their QB, it's still impressive for a transitioning program.

Agreed! It’s usually the same few people that turn the threads into this and it does get old. Thanks for the kudos. Exciting day for us. Liberty was down multiple players as well including our top 2 wideouts. #11 AGG is going to be playing on Sundays and came down with Mono. It’ll be interesting to see if Troy bounces back under Sawyer. Flames Nation is hoping you do and win out your schedule. Good for you and makes this win look better. Either way Troy has a fantastic program and LU would love to have the success y’all have had!

Actually we decided to give everyone 24 hours to get the Liberty talk out of their system. We don't get a ton of these threads anymore, and thought it made the most sense to leave it up until everyone got it out of their systems.

Clearly that doesn't appear to be working.

However, to make things clear. When these threads get hijacked, we're just going to lock them. I am not comfortable banning anyone who may or may not be taking a shot at religion. Its too much of a slippery slope that I have no desire to go down.
