The SWAC game has drawn 25k or less the past few years. That may not be a whole lot of leverage.

Kickoff SWAC game at 1130 am, wrap by 3 pm. Kickoff UAB game at 730 or even 8 pm. Not ideal but doable.

TV has already dictated the time of the CUSA championship unless CBS will agree to move it.

Atlanta - M-B dome, GA State stadium (former "Ted")
Montgomery - Crampton Bowl
AU or UA home stadiums
Mobile - Ladd Stadium
Jackson,MS - Jackson Stadium (I hated it,but I guess it is still there)

As I hear it, the SWAC game is a done deal whereas a UAB championship game is not. That would seem to give the SWAC leverage in any deal about shared space.

UAT is part of the UA system :)

Best I can tell the SWAC game isn't on TV. So it would have to be UAB game around noon and SWAC game that night.

That works! Only worry is how they would handle tailgating.

Atlanta - M-B dome,

Something tells me that it is unlikely the C-USA championship game will somehow boot the SEC Championship out of the Mercedes Benz Dome....

SWAC Announces Return of Football Championship Game for 2018

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On the eve of SWAC Football Media Day, the conference office announced that its football championship game will be brought back for 2018.

The game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The contest will pit the SWAC East and West Division champions. The winner of the game will represent the league in the Celebration Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Atlanta.

The SWAC Football Championship will be nationally televised on ESPNU. Legion Field previously hosted the SWAC Championship from 1999-2012.

Additionally, the conference announced that the 2019 SWAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships will be played at Bill Harris Arena as part of a partnership with the City of Birmingham.

According to the SWAC website, their championship game is set for 3:30. Since it is televised, I imagine it would be quite a logistical nightmare to try and get two competing TV networks and the involved schools/conferences and the city working together. Although, I guess it COULD happen.

If it happens, it would be embarrassing to have CUSA teams scoring in endzones painted with SWAC team names in them. At best I guess we could hope for the BIRMINGHAM blue endzones that are still faintly visible now.

Of course, compared to the CUSA basketball tourney setup now, this is actually on par.

RE: If UAB wins the right to host th CUSA championship
The most attended SWAC title game was the first one with 47,621 . The Game averaged 29,800 in Birmingham and 33,560 in Houston. For the last 5 years in Birmingham, the SWAC title game averaged 24,900.

We are averaging 24,836, so far, at home.

We could play the game as a back to back doubleheader, both groups could show up and everybody would have a seat. And we wouldn't even have to roll up the tarps.

Memphis, pop quiz. When is the last time UAB was #1 in the conference and stayed there more than a week?

I vote Montgomery. Crampton bowl or ASU's stadium. I don't want it in Tuscaloosa, but I'm open to other options. Also, was this the year we wanted to play Jacksonville in Montgomery or is that still an option in the future?

Anyway, still half a season to go before we really have something to worry about. Beat UNT.

If things can’t be worked out with Legion the Crampton Bowl would be my next choice.

This may be an unpopular opinion, we'd probably draw more fans to Bryant Denny than Crampton Bowl. There are some people that will go just because it's at Bryant Denny, who wouldn't normally get the chance otherwise. However, it will still look even emptier at Byrant Denny. Even more unpopular... I think if we can't host it at Legion Field... Let the other team host it. Attendance would take a huge hit if it's played anywhere other than Legion Field.

I could live with option number 1 if that was ever agreed upon. I see no way in the world they would allow that in Tuscaloosa. I vehemently oppose #2. If we earn the right to host we should not give the other team home field advantage. I’d rather us play in a 15-20k stadium that can’t hold everybody if we run out of other options.

Ive been to the last few Camellia Bowl games at the Crampton Bowl and think they do a good job. Surely we’d have at least 15-20k at the game which wouldn’t look that bad in that stadium as opposed to bigger stadiums.

I'd rather us play it at the covered practice field than at the other teams place.
