This is as big of a game as I can remember us having in a long time. If we can win this one, I like our odds of playing at Legion Field in December. If I had imagined myself saying that just a couple of years ago, I would've thought I'd lost my mind. I'm starting to get amped up.

This is why guys came here an bought into Clark's system, the expectation to play in games with championship implications. I started getting ready at the half of the Rice game

As long as our conference record remains -0 or -1 at worst, our remaining conference games are all potential C-USA championship play-in games. That's VERY significant. We have come a long way in an amazingly short time.

There have been so many times where we have had the rug pulled out from under us as UAB fans.

Black Friday when Bryant Jr. first tried to kill the program the weekend where we had our first 1st round draft pick.

The early heartbreakers against Southern Miss, The overtime game and the 0-3 game in particular.

The Tulane game where we entered the weekend with the same record we have now and ranked in the top 25 of the first ever BCS poll.

Hackney's senior season where it became obvious early the the team was but an empty shell behind a talented senior class because of the recruiting hit we took after Black Friday.

Years after the program needed to part ways with Watson, finally having hope that we could breathe fresh life into the program with a new coach, only to have Bryant Jr. again sabotage our program by forcing Calloway down our throats.

The false hope of Garrick McGee. Does anyone remember how excited we all were before his first season, and the agony of worrying that Petrino's motorcycle accident was going to end up costing us "our coach" before he coached a single game?

Speaking for myself, by the time we hired Coach Clark I had pretty much ceased to have expectations. I was like "Well, he has a winning background and he cant be worse than the last three coaches we had." Only to realize that he was the real deal about the same time we realized that Bryant Jr. was finally going to try finish the job he started with Black Friday and kill UAB football.

The Fall of 14 where the team opened a can on Troy then after some growing pains seemed to keep improving week after week even as the rumors of an impending shutdown grew. The growing realization that the fix was in, that our own President was in on it from the beginning. That terrible day when that ratf*cker Ray Watts made the announcement.

I've been a UAB fan since Bill Clinton was President and I'm more excited now about the state of the program than I have ever been. I'm more fired up about Saturdays game then any I can remember.

All of that said, the significance of Saturday's game to me is simply this: For the first time ever we are playing a football game that has legitimate conference championship implications. Win or lose, I have no doubt that it will not be the last.

Man, I'm right with you. I don't remember being more excited, and I've been waiting on this since I came to UAB in 1999. Talking about expectations when Clark came, at that time my now wife and I had been dating for a few years, and she was kinda becoming a UAB fan, even though she's an Auburn grad and a huge fan. Our first football season together was Callaway's final year, so she had seen some terrible UAB football. She's from Prattville, her little brother played on Clark's first state championship team, so she knew all about him. When we hired him, I was cautiously optimistic, but not expecting a whole lot. She told me then, you've got a winner, just wait and see. It's been one of the few times I haven't minded telling her she was right.

Saturday is another chance at 5 wins in a row. It's never happened as long as we've been D-1. We're 0-3, in the 5 win in a row game. 1996, 2001 & 2004.

Just stay focused and win the next game.

Knowing the importance of this week's game, I flipped to Jox this morning on the way to work to see if they were discussing it. I was pleasantly surprised that when I turned on the station they were playing clips from Clark's press conference yesterday. Jim Dunaway and Ryan Brown were both talking about how big the game was this weekend, conference championship implications, doesn't conflict with UA/AU, and how Birmingham needed to turn out with a big crowd.

Forecast shows 60% of rain in the morning followed by overcast skies. High of 66 and low of 48. As of now, the forecast doesn't show rain in the afternoon or night.

I hate to have to miss this game...at least the start of it. I am "obligated" to a wedding. I hope to make the second half, but...

Couldnt agree more. Been a blazer forever,since the program began, and this is the best remaining path to a football championship Ive seen this late in the season. A long way to go still, but if we take care of business and get a few bounces....

Spann said last night that the rain will begin around midnight Friday night and taper off around noon Saturday.
