RE: Clemson/UNCW exhibition at Trask for hurricane relief
Brad is a great guy. I've always liked talking to him. One time before an away Elon game, I was near the court and asked Brad: Are you worried about the game? He said, "Bill, I'm not worried about it, we will be fine". I asked Ernie Nestor, the head coach of Elon at the time, what do you think about the matchup? He told me that he was quite worried. UNCW opened up the game 22 to 6, but only won by 13. It's cool that you could get that kind of interchange back in the day before a matchup if you're right there and can actually talk to the coaches. It was a cool dynamic that night. I still don't know how I could have just shown up at court side and just talked with each head coach right before tip?
Heck, I was talking with John Goldsberry's dad, who was very cool that really knows the game, and knew me from the CAA board. He was incredulous as was I that the line was only 8 UNCW? I didn't have an answer and didn't pull the trigger myself as I was betting man back in the day, but that was a LOCK! John's dad was awesome and was asking me why they weren't fronting the post in the 1st half? He knew that they should and they,of course, made the adjustment and coasted after that with the size/agility advantage that was obvious. The Wyrick family were there too and were also fun to watch the game with. Beckham was a very good player too. Legendary parents that were fun to watch the game with! That was a fun night!!!

Beckham Wyrick was an absolute beast. Really loved watching him play when I was a student. That was a great group of guys that all seemed to really gel and play very solid ball together.

Beckham was a great defender. He always (or most always) drew the opposition's top player. Big or small he played them very tough. He may have arguably been the best overall Seahawk defender ever.

I argue for JG, but agree 100% on your thoughts on Wyrick. Crazy to think they played on the same teams. I remember JG getting in the heads of guys like JJ etc.

Great story about Beckham playing against LeBron in the high school state championship. To begin the game Beckham planted an elbow in LeBron's chest first trip down court. Just to let him know he was there. James didn't go off until Beckham got into foul trouble and they had to put someone else on him.

LeBron guaranteed victory in a TV interview the night before the state title game. But when Roger Bacon's Beckham Wyrick greeted him with a forearm shiver the first time down the court, it was GAME ON.
The championship game started at 11 a.m. and James woke up with back spasms. Then he woke up again when the 6-5 Wyrick gave him a forearm after the opening tip.
"I wanted him to know we weren't going to roll over like a lot of teams who played against him," Wyrick said.

Not shocking, those two dudes were fearless, very capable defenders!
