Game 6: home vs Elon (Family Weekend)
Stay focused Dukes.

For those not attending, game will be televised live via MASN and streamed via MadiZone (and some other platforms).

1:30pm kickoff. Should be a lot of folks on campus as usual on Family Weekend.

Fill 'er up and be loud, Dukes fans. This team deserves our continued support.

This is our toughest FCS opponent to date on paper. I am not remotely concerned from a matchup standpoint. Dukes will keep rolling.

This is the next best CAA team. And we will be a 3 touchdown favorite.

Doesn’t this statement feel a little funny considering the opponent is Elon?
They are a fraud.

It should not be much of a game and we can expect special teams to be a huge mismatch in personnel.
If Elon can play fundamentally sound without turnovers then they won’t lose by the 50+ points that rivals W&M and Richmond did.

Elon 10

Why do you consider them a fraud?

They've won all their games fairly convincingly so far this year with the exception of a loss to South Florida. Summers is back healthy at RB this year also. I don't expect them to go off vs JMU, but he does require attention which could help their QB find a little extra breathing room.

RE: Game 6: home vs Elon (Family Weekend)
All of our offensive stats should have a large *

All JMU stats and computer model predictions are still impacted by the NSU game. One of the better models (Versus) only had us about 20 points over RU this past week.

The NSU game continues to impact stats, and we would be the top offense if that game was correctly calculated as a 1/4 game, or if we had played it out and scored 14+ per quarter, which seems likely.

FCS Scoring Offense:

JMU has 217 points scored, 4.25 games played = 51.05 ppg
"Officially" SDSU has the #1 offense at 50.7 ppg

JMU *should* statistically be recognized as the #1 scoring offense, but it appears nobody adjusts for 1/4 games.

I understand that. I’m just reporting the stats as they are. You could make the argument our defensive stats look better than they should.

Elon’s stats look better than I’d have thought, but similar to our 1/4 game, they have a cancelled game at W&M that probably would’ve favored them even more.

They’re a decent team defensively, with a pass D as good as ours. Their rush D is their weakness. We have to successfully exploit that on Saturday.

Their offense isn’t very balanced, relying more heavily on the run. That works right into our strength. We should shut down their run and force Cheek to try and beat us with the pass. When do opposing teams learn to stop throwing it at the WR Jimmy’s covering? Just don’t.

This game mildly concerns me, but it did last year and we rolled. I am not convinced the gap between the programs has closed in less than a year. Get after Davis Cheek all day and make Malcolm Summers a non-factor and the dukes will keep rolling.

Elon is a very good team, but nothing has changed to lead me to believe JMU is losing any conference games.

Elon has the talent and coaching to keep it close for a half (like UR did for a quarter), but our depth will wear them out in the 2nd half and we pull away comfortably.

Agree with you. Their QB has completed 70% of his passes over the last 3 games and Summers is an excellent runner. Need to play D like we did in the second half Saturday.

RE: Game 6: home vs Elon (Family Weekend)
QB Cheek is nothing to worry about. Once you see him play you will see that he is the weak link in their offense. Elon lives on play action passing throwing to wide open receivers that grandma could hrow to.
JMU will commit to stopping the run early and Cheek will be in plenty of obvious passing downs where he doesn’t have the game to succeed.
Houston will worry about the run game 1st, 2nd, and 3rd with little respect for the passing game.
