Why stop there? Let's just do the end of the season power rankings and be done with it.
1. Troy
That's how it ends.
Interesting how the team you have as number 1 doesn't even make the conference championship game.
Exactly! The question is, who will be playing in Conway from the west?

Something something about peaking too early, and peaking at the right time. We'll be ready

RE: Week 4 Power Rankings
CBS Sportsline has LSU #2 in its power rankings simply because LSU has beaten 2 "top 10" teams in 3 weeks away from Tiger Stadium. At this point in the season who knows whether Miami and Auburn are really top 10 teams, and LSU is certainly not the second best team in the nation. Power rankings for SBC are similarly just week to week looks given perceptions about opponents which may or may not hold true in a few weeks. App State and Troy have clearly shown enough at this point to deserve places at the top, and Arkansas State is probably there or near there as well. The rest is anybody's guess. For SBC teams it is all about conference standings and how they finish against an O/U of 5.5 wins. It is likely one or two teams in the lower half of this week's power rankings will dial up a top half finish and break the 5.5 barrier.

Georgia State may get to six wins, but they don't look to be better than anyone I listed that is above them.
I placed Arkansas State at number 2 because their best indicator of their strength was Tulsa, who played a down Texas team close. I would almost put Nebraska and Texas on the same scale of sleeping giant programs that are transitioning with new coaching staff's waiting to get their personnel in the building. Thus, Troy is number three because of their loss to Boise, not because their win against Nebraska.
Georgia Southern and Coastal will make noise with their offense in the conference and seem bound to get to six wins. ULM is playing tougher defense but their offense is sputtering. South Alabama still isn't out of jeckyl and hyde mode in my opinion. Texas State and Georgia State just don't look the part of contenders, or even close to being in the middle of the Belt.

We didn’t play well at all against Boise state.
However they would have beaten anyone in this conference by 2+ TDS that day. They were killer.

The difference between Texas and Nebraska is immense. Massey composite 32 vs. 90.

An unpredictable Texas. Beaten by Maryland, looked to put Tulsa away and couldn't then rolled USC.

That may be, but that is an assumption that cant be proved or disproved. If it makes you feel better that's nice, but it is a fools argument to make.

I disagree, Week 3 power rankings are power rankings based on week 3 results. Power rankings before the 1st game aren't week 1 power rankings, they are preseason power rankings. Week 1 power rankings are for the results after week 1 and so on.

Preseason Power Rankings are Preseason Power Rankings. Beginning game Week of Week 1 (Monday) should be Week 1 Power Rankings.
You could easily say that Week 4 Power Rankings are based on the results of Week 1 through 3. While they are the Week 4 Rankings because you are developing them during Week 4. They can still be based on Week 3 results without containing the name Week 3 because technically it is Week 4.
Regardless, no one is going to change their mind about it but my way, as per usual, is more concise and more precise to the true week of games being played. You would say that Week 4 Power Rankings are based upon the expected results of Week 4 along with the existing results from Weeks 1-3.

RE: Week 4 Power Rankings
I actually agree with Eric. Week 4 Power Ratings should be made during the week they are consumed. It's no longer Week 3.
The format should be as such:
Offseason Power Ratings - 8 Month Long Off Season
Week 0 Power Ratings - Tuesday Start of Week 0 with most games that weekend.
Week 1 Power Ratings - Used During Week 1 that ends with Week 1 weekend games.
Week 4 Power Ratings - Used During Week 4 that ends with Week 4 weekend games.
Bowl Season and Final Power Ratings - Self Explanatory.
Week 4 Power Ratings are used for Week 4 games, not from last weeks games. It's not last week anymore. It is how strong the teams are going into their Week 4 games.

It’s also an assumption to assume App States OT loss to Penn State makes you the best team in the conference too

RE: Week 4 Power Rankings
ESPN posted their Week 3 conference power rankings 2 days ago...
247 posted their Week 3 ACC power rankings 2 days ago...
SI and Bleacher report are on Week 4.
Appears there is not a consensus among "the professionals" either.
