It had nothing to do with the play as the runner was clearly crossing the goal line. I am sure that it was based on total frustration with the lack of success the Tribe had. The last 3 years have been difficult, but I always took pride in the fact that the Tribe competed hard and fairly. Last season's effort against Richmond after a year of great struggle was a good example of that. Hopefully, things will begin to turn around for the Tribe as it did for the basketball team.

As for the Dukes, most of their posters are very respectful. Their coach is not only a very excellent coach, he represents them and the team well. JMU did not have to honor Coach Laycock on Saturday and they did a good job of doing it. The game in 2004, irrespective of the following playoff game was as hard fought a game as there has been at JMU and the Dukes were bitterly disappointed. Many of us, including me were there. Honoring Coach for that special game and moment was ok. There was certainly no rubbing in the fact that they won the rematch. 2004 was a magical season for the Tribe, too and likely helped build the Laycock Center. Lang Campbell's 2004 season still likely represents the best one ever by a Tribe QB and the game vs. Delaware that year was also one of the most amazing Tribe games ever played.

51-0 and 46-14 could have been even worse that the final score indicated. JMU has reached the height in football many of us hope to see the Tribe reach. While the separation is very significant today, it might not remain that way in a few years. But, it could be like VMI. They beat VT and UVA multiple times in the 70's and last defeated Tech in 82'. Expecting that today is delusional, but then again 0-3 ODU(who got destroyed by Liberty just 3 weeks ago) just beat VT.

But, if there is some back and forth between the fans, we need to learn to deal with it. It is part of sports and if we are unable to deal with it, then we need to not make comments ourselves. Besides, when the comments stop, it means the other side no longer considers your school even relevant or a rival. The best local example I know of is VT/UVA. Even though the Hokies have owned the Cavs for more than 15 years, there is still friendly banter back and forth. Sooner or later, UVA will win in November and there will be banter going the other way. But, each is part of a special group of schools in the Commonwealth. JMU is a great school, just not the one that my family went to. There are lots of successful people that went there and I have friends who went there and who work there and my current W&M student has friends there. She wants to see us beat them, but afterwards, they are still friends. I remind her that basketball at W&M was once so bad you could walk in 2 minutes to tip off and sit on the front row. Things do not remain that way forever. They evolve, change and develop. It is even possible, albeit unlikely, the Tribe begins to turn things around in the next few weeks. On to Colgate.......

Well stated. I also note comments regarding the perceived higher value of basketball success. I would wager that more people know about UR's Sweet Sixteen gigs than the FCE Championship.

I have been a Tribe football fan since the 80's, and enjoyed many games (not all wins) over the decades. When we had issues on defense ( I was in Orlando when we played Cent. Florida), we still had a great offense. The difference now is the game is much, much different, and our game plan does not really seemed to evolve over that period. We will see what is on the horizon given changes in Admin. and coaching. If we do not change the future is bleak.

Back on JMU. I have seen many JMU games over the years. They have made big changes in their program (some I think are great, others not), and they have now won 2 titles, to zero for us. I was there in 2004 for the fumble, and FG, and then in 2010 when we lost w/out a JMU a pass completion. Before the 2010 game we were highly ranked (maybe even #1) and a JMU alum told me, maybe this is W&M's year. At least I did not see her after the game.

I was at the playoff game last year when they crushed SDSU. The atmosphere was electric, fans loud and into it, and no one complained when people stood. Made our experience pretty sad. I spoke to my friend today, and he told me I need to come along again this year in the playoffs. It was unspoken that I would not have any W&M conflict come playoff time...…..

I hope we can get back to the time when we are playing after Thanksgiving......

JMU Game
If we cared about JMU fans' opinions (especially the cowardly fans who didn't post here until after the game) we'd go to your board.

I replied Well Said to a W&M fan whose post I thought worthwhile. You deleted it. If that’s trolling over here, ok.

This is a message board. It dies without dialogue.

I think TheRealTribe is right. I was watching on tv and can recall what he is describing, but it sort of got cut from the camera angle, and the replay showed the wrong player getting the unsportsmanlike. I’d say it happened in the 2nd half as the Tribe we’re moving towards the PAC.

Thanks, haven't been able to catch the full replay yet. Will look for it.

RE: JMU Game
Curt did mention on the telecast that, in that instance, it was a classic case of the referee catching the retaliator and missing the instigator. It happens.
