Nice. What is there cut off between a national and regional status?

EDIT
NVM found it.

Universities do not really use Newsweek the Carnegie classification carriers much more weight. Those are based on research dollars, and number of doctoral degrees offered

U.S. News followed the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education's Basic Classification system to determine schools' placement into the 2019 edition ranking categories. In February 2016, Carnegie released official updates – called the "2015 Update" – including the Basic system. U.S. News followed this 2015 Update starting with the 2017 Best Colleges rankings. No schools changed categories between last year's 2018 rankings and this year's 2019 edition.

The Carnegie classification, which higher education researchers use extensively, has been the basis of the Best Colleges ranking category system since the publication of our first rankings in 1983. The U.S. Department of Education and many higher education associations use the Carnegie system to organize or label their data. In some cases, the Carnegie classifications are used to determine colleges' eligibility for grant money. In short, the Carnegie categories are the accepted standard in U.S. higher education.

I have to say they've seemed to have changed their criteria quite a bit. They used to have a number of items based on criteria that seemed not directed at academics. I've linked the whole methodology below for those interested. I'm hoping by the next review period UL will move up a level in the Carnegie rankings.

How U.S. News Calculated the Rankings

If memory serves me, it was the last ranking that ULM moved up to a national ranking and I believe that other university about 30 miles west dropped some in their ranking. Made for some interesting posts. But, then again, I am getting older.....

Rust-town lost their Carnegie R2 causing them to drop to UNSWR Tier 2. They are now R3 along with ULM.

The dog killers are moving down. Isn't ULM moving up?

I think we are going to need more doctoral programs to crack 229 like GaSt did last year IIRC. That would take the BOR actually treating us like a research university though and that might slightly affect thUGA so not likely. Good to be in the top 300 though that would have been a laughable notion not to long ago. Looks like ArkSt gets the mushroom treatment by the state as well.

Georgia seems to be loking to our neighbor to the south and realizing that part of the support infrastructure that you need to handle explosive population gowth is higher ed and health.

With the consolidation of a really good regional university and large campus like Armstrong I am hoping it pushes us closer and forces the BOR's hand a little more. The Hinesville campus is just basically a nice building but a good link with the the military base. It is a joke we have only three non medical schools being funded at the doctoral level and it has not changed for two decades despite adding millions to the population. We keep adding masters and doctoral programs but the BOR seems to think nothing below Macon deserves a non medical doctoral public university. The fact we are lumped in with Valdosta and W GA when we have clearly separated from them over the last 20 years is a joke. KSU jumped way up with the consolidation with Southern Poly and probably should be on track to doctoral status as well. Meanwhile FLA has doctoral funded school every five feet.
