RE: Game Day: @Purdue
The big thing that CC has going for himself is his record of beating non-MAC FBS teams, especially on the road.

I'm thinking of Wyoming, Rutgers, and now Purdue.

If a G5 team wants to be taken seriously they need to be able to beat P5 conference teams.

And, of course, Rutgers and Purdue, are members of P5 conferences (in this case the B1G).

Elton Rynerson doesn't have as much yards as Genyk

No sling for Hoying, he'll be back sooner than later I'd think. Eddington took a cheap shot below the knee and a Purdue OLineman got called for a 15 yard penalty on it. Looked like a knee, but he actually had his lower leg/calf wrapped in ice when he walked back out. He already had his entire hand wrapped in a club from a finger injury last week. Tough kid.

I believe Glass is minor, may have rolled an ankle. Not sure about other DLine injuries. LaBarbara went down briefly, but got right up and walked off on his own power.

Hunter Andrews in rotation now got the fumble recovery. CJ Hunt the freshman getting quite a few reps which is nice to see. Turan Rush in the DE rotation with Holford, but no reps for Simeon at this point.

Obviously too many rush yards given up..........need to tighten that up. I think we put more focus on #4 and their pass game, and limiting the big pass yardage, which opened up the run lanes a little more........which was by design.

Not going to nitpick after limiting Purdue to 19 points at home!!!!

Our guys were flying around and playing really hard to the whistle which resulted in the fumbles that were crucial to the win.

Great job overall.

Thanks ETough for sharing the insider information!!

Not really 'insider'. I'm just summarizing what anyone else can see that is actually at the game/games, for those that aren't/can't be there.

The other DT that went down was the other new Juco, Marqualin Scott, who actually looked the worst because he couldn't put any weight on his leg as he was helped off the field.

I saw Scott come out of the tent and walk around. I think he re-entered

Missed that myself, but great news if so. If we're only down 1 DLineman for a couple games we'll be just fine depth wise. Labarbera and Kelly the starters so would be nice to keep them healthy the entire year.

Didn't see any other injuries outside of the DLine, so we're in good shape on that front...........knock on wood.

Any thoughts on why we didn't go for 2? I was very concerned about this at the time. I know it doesn't matter now, but why didn't they go for it? Seemed like in the moment that should have been the call.

For the exact reason we won the game. At the time we scored it was 16-12. If we fail the 2 point conversion, and they score to go up 19-16, a FG by us at the end only ties it. If we just take the 1 point we're up 17-12. If they score (which they obviously did) they go back up 19-17, and a FG wins it for us.

Another huge mistake by them allowed this to play out perfectly for us. When they scored, they were going to go for 2 to try to push it to 20-17, but the kid that scored for them got the 15 yard penalty for excessive celebration on his TD, and they were forced to kick the extra point to make it 19-17.

It worked out perfectly for us, and the rest is history!

What makes me upset about that decision is that we wasted a time out to kick a PAT. That should have been a situational call that was determined ahead of time. I could see calling a timeout to decide on a 2 pt play, but not to kick it.

I re-watched some of the game. The guy that got the flag for late hit, #46, was taking little cheap shots all day. Mostly just a harmless extra bump here or there after a play but definitely an indicator that the dude has discipline issues.

If I have one beef with Creighton, it's his liberal use of timeouts in the second half. We always seem to have only 1 or 2 left in the waning minutes of a game. It bit us in the ass a couple times last year too, during our six game losing streak.

But that complaint is for another day. I'm insanely proud of the team and Coach Creighton. Still on a high from that win, and it's Monday.

BTW, I have NO problem with that TO. The score was very, very strange (16 - 12) and at that point in the game it would have been easy to make the WRONG choice, go for 2 to make it a 6 point game.

The proper choice was to get a 5 point lead, prepare for Purdue to possibly score 7 and then trail by 2 with a FG winning the game.

Thanks for sharing Steve! I missed it as usual, which is why I cherish this website. Creighton is a master at interviews and at selecting who he brings to them. We have lost the recruiting battle in SE Michigan for too long. Bringing Hickey from Brother Rice thus invoking the comparison to TJ Lang is a powerful recruiting event. Just plain wonderful!
