Except for Austin, that's a whole season of inconvenient road trips to places I don't want to go. I mean... I'd take it, but if I am shooting for a miracle, the ACC is a much better fit geographically and (hopefully long term) academically.

Well Joe (and we know you read this) we don't trust the guy as far as we can throw him. He's full of nebulous "expectations" for a program that he killed then brought back at the point of a bunch of loaded checkbooks. He works for a group that uses public money without public accountability or even a semblance of oversight. Somehow that just doesn't inspire confidence.

RE: Goodman - Ray Watts Article
Too many people here remember knowing that the shut down was coming, listened to the denials, read the documents that Whitmire and Archibald got, and were there when the hammer dropped. Watts was bought and paid for then, and he has not taken a pay cut in the months since.

Watts can say anything he wants. We judged him on his actions. What he says to make the best of events after his hand was forced is PR, and we all know it. He needs to go. Door is that way. ------------------------->

When we were working to get football returned, I made the comment on here that my greatest fear was they would throw us the bone of football, but we would remain in thrall to the criminals in Tuscaloosa. Bingo

I also remember I think Archibald predicting this course of action the day they announced the return.

Bottom line-Ray Watts can eat s#$t and die

Am I the only one the views this article differently? First of all i don’t see Goodman as being as fluff writer, secondly he is squarely putting the pressure on Watts to get us out of C-USA and into AAC to prove he is one of us again. I personally like the article.

There was a hint of that but he seems to shy away from that on his twitter responses.

Referring to the new stadium, Watts said "we'll play six, maybe four games every year..." Did I miss something?

He's already demonstrated math is not his strong suit.

Well he could be speaking of the 4 meaning that we'll be playing more away money games to reach "fiscal responsibility" that they keep tossing out. At least what would happen in his mind not that Clark etal would go for it.

Since the NCAA minimum is five home games, that would fit with his long-term plan for UAB football.

Fire Ray Watts.

Well, he did almost get UAB out of C-USA after 2015 - if football had not been restored. I am still convinced that Watts believed that C-USA would let UAB stay in C-USA with only basketball. When it became clear they would not, and there was no line outside the AD's door of basketball only conferences inviting UAB to join, he relented on football. He did not want to risk being infamous as the UAB President who killed the whole UAB Athletic Department program.

That was secondary. He didn't want the Campaign For UAB to clunk.

No idea what in the hell the UA BOT plans on doing with all of the money in the Campaign For UAB but I'm guessing not everything will be spent how we think it should be.

Blazerman, the the Campaign for UAB is a collection of all donations from every department on campus. Regular donations to your school's alumni fund count towards the total, donations to the comprehensive cancer center count towards it, naming rights to the Collat School of Business are part of it, etc. There isn't one giant pot of $1b that will be spent at the end.

i find it interesting that i no longer receive any requests for donations (other than from the athletic dept).
i guess the fear that i'll write "Fire Ray Watts" again is stronger than the hope that i'll start donating again

I find it hard to believe you wouldn’t want to travel to Ames, Iowa, mahatten, Kansas, or Waco, Texas

Not to ever give Ray Watts the benefit of the doubt, but that could be a misquote on the authors part. Really easy to mishear/misquote that and the actual quote being "we'll play 6, maybe MORE games every year."

You left out Lubbock TX, anywhere else in KS, & all of Oklahoma.

We will never have to worry about that, no matter who is president

I am just curious as to which conference would even look at an application from Watts without laughing him right out of the room? He's the only president in the past 20 (or so) years to murder his own football team and then be forced to raise it from the dead 6 months later. It will be hard to move to any other conference with him in place.
