Mobile rejects plan to help fund new South Alabama stadium
Setback for the USA Jags. Interested to see if this kills the plan. Mobile just let its AA Southern League MILB baseball team leave for suburban Huntsville, perhaps there is no stomach for putting up $$$ to keep/upgrade local sports.

Ladd has seen better days. The field itself is in great shape. South was trying to give them some money right after USA stadium was completed to help renovate Ladd. There is lots of deferred maintenance, take a ton to get it ADA compliant, much less modern. But now, Ladd is put back in the pile of deferred maintenace projects the city has to decide what to do with. Lots of outcry from the area around that area doesn't want Ladd to be changed. USA is leaving and taking the Senior Bowl and Dollar General bowl with it. We don't need a 40,000 seat high school stadium for the 4 county high schools that play there. Our big high schools have their own stadium.

It's actually a setback for the city of Mobile. USA will still build the stadium and be better for not partnering with the city. The city is definitely the big loser here. In the Youtube video below you can see the new intramural fields being built and the old intramural fields being cleared out. The stadium will be built where the old intramural fields were, which is located next to the Jaguar Training Center, the football facilities, and the outdoor practice fields.

Funny thing is Huntsville lost their team to Biloxi about three years ago.
The BayBears are moving to Madison.
Honestly I’m surprised Jacksonville is still in the Southern League, given the enormous distance even to Pensacola, much less to Tennessee.
Where would they go? The other Double-A leagues (Eastern, Texas) are even further afield. They could try to catch a Triple-A affiliation, or drop down to the advanced A Florida State League, but the former is easier said than done and the latter would probably do more harm than good for attendance.
