Exclamation By the numbers: Savannah St Edition
Because we need something to occupy our time until August 30, let's compare opponent stats for the opener against Savannah St. Please feel free to join in...

Number of players weighing 290lb+:
UAB- 28 (max 385)
SSU- 11 (max 330)

Number of players 6'3"+:
UAB- 47 (max 6'8")
SSU- 27 (max 6'7")

I'm going to stop here.
I looked at the SSU 2017 season stats and I just couldn't do it. AJ had more rushing TDs than their team total in 2017. Coach-speak says respect every opponent. Fan-speak asks what quarter do we pull the starters.

It's not just that they lose a lot. When they do lose they do so spectacularly.

Last time I said this about a UAB team I was talking to some friends when we played Knoxville College.

I'm not sure we can keep from running the score up. SOME of our walk-ons and fourth team guys could start for them. Just look at our depth at RB (especially) WR, TE, OL, LB, etc. I could see HCBC taking it relatively easy on them, being vanilla as can be and still dropping 60 on them because we simply can't help it. If we want to we could go have a old school Houston Cougars score on them.

It would not surprise me if we keep it totally vanilla & use this more as live scrimmage to prepare for next game.

We need to beat them by 80 points or I will be embarrassed. I mean, I'm already embarrassed we scheduled them, but I will be double embarrassed if this is a 28-7 situation.

People were saying the same things about Alabama A&M in 2014. They came in here and outgained us 155 to 6 in the 1st quarter. UAB played ball the last 3 quarters though, and won 41-14

That's how I view it. Get real action in front of a live audience and take the opportunity to get some of our backups and younger guys some experience.

A&M beat em by 31 in 2013 and that was a bad year for A&M that ended with the head coach being fired.

With the new 4 game "red shirt" rule, I expect to see more players get game experience in this type of game. It is exactly this kind of game the NCAA probably had in mind with that rule.

Basically the only meaningful victory from this game will be coming away from it with no injuries. It's a name your score game against an opponent we had no business scheduling and on a day/time that makes it hard to attend.

The final score is meaningless because we will be playing vanilla on both sides of the ball. Attendance will be artificially low (yet Im sure reported on ad nauseam.)

Good news is that its still UAB football, and thank god for UAB football.

I think we will have 20,000+ because it is the opening game and we are coming off a historic season last year. Plus the marketing for UAB football this year has been so much more than in the past. But I am a overly optimistic person, so I may be just looking at it through my green and gold glasses. Plus I'm amped about having my Blazer Club seats this year!!!

GO BLAZERS!!!!!

I really wish the gabe was on Saturday...that having been said...I know of people that weren’t planning to go (bc they have young kids and its a school night), who are now going to attend bc some players went to the schools and got the kids all pumped up to go...so, at least they made that good move

I'll be there with my fiance. Glad its on a Thursday, just wish the opponent was different. Excited to see some back ups play. Hoping its not a slow start like last year against A&M.

In many cases, it's to whom they spectacularly lose.

They got their asses kicked by some real dogs last year.

I like the idea of youth football night. Problem is it’s on a school night. Only a couple of players coming from ours. We have reached out till we are blue in the face. #1 reason they are not coming. It’s a school night. Hopefully other communities have better Luck.
