mobile is a little different. similar in principle but there is a segment of "old mobile" that wants things to stay the same in perpetuity.

If the city votes no can USA then try and get the Senior Bowl, bowl game and the high school classic at their stadium and take it away from Ladd?

Yes. The bowls want to move and play @ USA. The SB Executive Director is on record of saying to the city council it “will move” when built because Ladd is landlocked and the NFL wants to put on a event and that’s hindered at Ladd.

So what is the deal with the bowl game? ESPN owns it but is there an current contract with the city? Could it be moved to USA without the city being involved?

One way or another, the mini-drama will be over next week. The mayor put his foot down and decided that if the council doesn't vote next week, the LOI will be rescinded and there will be no agreement. Too much pork was being added to the deal and it had grown from a $7.5M deal to 30-40 million dollars if the different interest groups got their way. Thank you mayor for doing the right thing. Force their hand and let's see how stupid they really are.

I'm fairly certain it's going to be a "no" vote, which is fine with me. Mobile will spend more money in the long run as a result or USA will absorb the bowls and charge them rent. The previous agreement was a mutual favor with honestly the city coming out with the better deal. They are very stupid if they vote no.

I have always like the idea of saving the old buildings. Over the last couple years, I have changed my mind. Ladd is not in a good location, if it were in a downtown location like the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, I may different. But Ladd has outlived its usefulness, it’s time to let it go in its current make up. The city will dump millions into that building for no real return.

It’s time to move past the life Ladd has lived.

If Ladd was downtown and near restaurants, I would up for saving it too. I personally feel that the high schools that play there need there own OCS stadium. I would think that would be cheaper than fixing up and maintaining Ladd.

It seems like most South fans have the right idea, IMO. While maintaining historic buildings, landmarks, etc. is important, it should never hinder (or in this case, hurt) potential growth, not just for the school, but for the whole community. Plus, consider just HOW MUCH money Ladd will take to "fix up" (mainly due to deferred maintenance by the city). And if you do look at this from just a numbers standpoint, the city putting money into the USA deal is a MUCH better deal than trying to sink money into Ladd. Considering it's taxpayer money, you'd think they'd see that.
At any rate, I'm excited for y'all to get your new stadium, with or without the city's help.
