After getting pulled over at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday near Bluffton and May River roads, where she was spotted speeding through a four-way stop sign, Cutshaw told cops she had had just two glasses of wine, according to the police report obtained by the Island Packet.

“I mean I was celebrating my birthday,” Cutshaw, who turns 33 on Thursday, told the cops when they asked her how big the glasses were for her alleged two drinks, according to the report.

But she didn’t stop there. Cutshaw gave the officers a litany of other reasons why she deserved to be let off the hook: She maintained perfect grades during all of her school years, was a cheerleader and a member of a sorority. Her partner is also a cop, Cutshaw said.

“I’m a white, clean girl,” Cutshaw said, according to the report. When the officers asked what exactly that meant, she replied, “You’re a cop, you should know what that means.”

The police report indicated how surprised the officers were by the comments.

“Making statements such as these as a means to justify not being arrested are unusual in my experience as a law enforcement officer and I believe further demonstrate the suspect’s level of intoxication,” according to the report.

Full disclosure, you are wrong. Again. We are used to it around here.

Bluffton Township was where all the maids, butlers, cooks, etc. for the people who lived on Hilton Head used to live before Hilton Head grew up and the money folks started gentrifying Bluffton in the 1990's, spearheaded by the construction of Sun City.

I’ve never had a DUI or any kind alcohol-related encounter with law-enforcement. One instance in my early 20s when I rolled the dice and got away with it.

So I’m *not* speaking from any kind of bitter experience here when I say that it has always bothered me when cops include socially-embarrassing but non-incriminating statements in official reports. Just sadistic, really. Unless this sort of thing is taken in lieu of a fine, it only serves to make people resent law-enforcement.

Worst I ever saw was nearly 40 years ago, when a group of us got into a late-night tussle with another group at a fast-food place -- a "Jack in the Box" (does that chain still exist?).

One of my buddies, who was not even involved in the confrontation but instead was sitting drunkenly at a table just trying to eat, was told by the cops to get up a leave. He looked up from his meal, pointed a french fry at the cop and said "blow me".

He, of course, was the only one arrested that night.

I am in complete solidarity with you on this. I don't even drink because I saw what alcohol can do to certain people that cannot handle its side effects.

I do not believe anyone should feel "sympathy" for Ms. Cutshaw.

I do believe that facts which are not on-point (to the charges filed) should be omitted from police reports.

I wish people would not conflate those two subjects.

Sounds like she used Reality Winner's statement, without checking to see how well that worked for Reality Winner.

I guess we can close the file on the whole "White privilege" thing. If this "clean throughbred" can't get it, then it doesn't exist.
