RE: Predictions
Last year, 1-11 with only two losses by 6 or fewer points. This year, better coaches but maybe less talent.
My prediction: 3-10.
Playing PVAM is worth one extra win. Coaching is worth another.

RE: Predictions
The optimistic prediction would be 6 or 7 wins. If hitting the exact number was the only way to save my life, I'd say four.
I think the coaching staff will do great things, but it will all come down to quarterback play. If we somehow find a diamond (Clement) in the rough we should have a winning record.

It will be awfully hard to have less talent than last year's team. Seriously. These guys may be younger and more inexperienced, but I suspect they'll be better coached on techniques. That, coupled with better scheming, discipline, execution and special teams play should make us dramatically better than last year's embarrassment.

Ellerbee is supposedly competing for a NFL starting spot at LB if the Atlanta media is to be believed.
Anderson will be starting LT at Texas.
Not to mention Preston Gordon and JT Ibe who weren’t terrible.
We won’t miss VJ Banks so I agree with you there.

RE: Predictions
I think this team will be an interesting experiment in just how important coaching is. If Bailiff and his staff did as poor a job as I think they did, this team could make a huge leap forward.
I'm not ready to make my prediction yet. I went for 3-9 last year, got blasted for being so pessimistic, and ended up being too optimistic. I'm thinking 4 right now, but want to think about it some more.

Why would you want to think about it more? No one here has a damn clue what's going to happen. We're all just throwing numbers out, and highly ill-informed ones at that.

This is the way I see it too. But I'll go wildly optimistic and say if we can get that midseason win streak going through CUSA, it builds on itself and we steal at least one win in the state of Louisiana.
7 wins. 9 at the outside.(adding FIU and LT)

Where do they sell this Kool-Aid some of you are drinking?
UTSA beat us 20-7 last year.
LaTech 42-28
USM 43-34
UNT 30-14
UAB 52-21
We’ve lost talent since last year, and those teams aren’t going to just roll over. We don’t even know who our QB is going to be. No pitchforks when we go 3-10 or 4-9.

We didn't lose that much talent from last year, and that talent didn't produce diddledeesquat due to the horrendous coaching. Me thinks you a grossly underestimating the impact of our new coaching staff. We'd do better than last year if we started only true Freshmen on the field.

The SMU experience says otherwise. But heck, two wins would be better than last year, so yeah, I think we will be better than last year.
As for the pitchforks, I presume that means no torches either? Going to be a dull parade without torches and pitchforks. (J/K)
It will be interesting to watch this evolve though the year, as we win games, or heaven forbid, lose them.

And what SMU experience was that-- the one immediately following the death penalty, when they had NO returning players and an inability to recruit anyone worth a nickle?

LOL... Maybe the Chad Morris experience where they sucked at first and only got decent his final year?
The same Chad Morris who was a very good OC at a power program (Clemson) and has since gotten an SEC job.

yes, the one where nearly all their players were true freshmen, as you suggest. I know of no other situation even remotely similar to:
"We'd do better than last year if we started only true Freshmen on the field."
I was at their first game. A Rice team that would not reach .500 (2-8-1) even with the SMU gimme won going away.

Or the 2008 edition where they came off a 1-11 season and hired June Jones in the offseason and still went 1-11.
I bet they didn’t even have all of their seniors transfer out.

It will be awfully hard to have less talent than last year's team. Seriously. These guys may be younger and more inexperienced, but I suspect they'll be better coached on techniques. That, coupled with better scheming, discipline, execution and special teams play should make us dramatically better than last year's embarrassment.
Walt - splitting the difference between your prediction and mine yields 4.5 wins. You have the over and I have the under.
How about a friendly wager* - the loser donates an extra $100 to the Owl Club in honor of the winner?
Tom

I hope to see all that. I have hoped for that before many times since 1966. Just not ready to go all in on promises. Sounds almost like a wish list for Santa.
But I sure hope you are right.
