GREECE fires have left 79 people are dead and 187 injured
https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/994...-emergency

The fire in Mati - a popular tourist destination and home to holiday villas and resorts - was caused by an intense heatwave in Greece, following weeks of sizzling temperatures.

Authorities declared a state of emergency in the eastern and western parts of greater Athens, as fires spread through pine forests and seaside towns across the capital.

It's been another ridiculous weather year. We finally got a mini reprieve in Houston (although I think we only had 2 days of 100 degree weather compared to 3 or 4 or 5 straight days in Dallas, Waco, and even Austin where it got as high as 111 or 112)? Bad tornadoes in Iowa, and there was that horrible duck boat accident in Branson, Missouri that happened in the middle of a thunderstorm (although I don't blame the weather there, just a poor decision by that company to go out in the water when there was the threat of bad weather). Today they are expecting bad wildfires in Yosemite Park.

And turning abroad, Japan has had record heat as well with areas near Tokyo experiencing all-time high temperatures for that country (like 108 I think?).

The only bright spot is it's been a very quiet hurricane season thus far.

Heard Texas has been hot. Up here virtually no humidity and about 80. Unheard of. for July.

It’s been the same this week in Birmingham. We’ve had some of the regularly scheduled miserable days, but this summer really hasn’t been too bad. In fact, the walk to lunch from my office has been kind of nice lately.

The best reason to live in MN is that the cold keeps the rif-raff out. The second best reason to live here the summer, all 18 days of it.

We’ve had “temperate” temps here in central Va., and a nice shot of jungle-like humidity. 81 degrees and so humid it feels like 98.

I’d take 94 and low humidity and a light breeze all day long.

Nothing like sweating walking from the garage door to the car...

Miserable

Had my wedding in West Michigan, right off the lake at 5pm... and it was low 80s... we dont get those temperatures down here in Houston. We are thinking about moving up to West Michigan soon

Haha

First time I ever saw a 100 deg+ day was when visiting my Grandparents in St. Paul and Coon lake. Probably circa 1978 or so.

First tornado I ever saw, too!

Kinda an epic couple of weeks I guess, in hindsight.

We were up in Appleton, WI touring the Pierce plant one year when it was 98 degrees and humid as hell. Our guides looked at us and said "You guys probably think these temperatures are OK." Nah, not really.

I didn't know Bison had moved. Great for you. I reckon she took a bunch of her friends and folks with her.

Stationary hemmed in domes of high pressure set up in different places every year. When that happens you often get heat waves of record temperatures. It pretty much happens every year.
