During high school, I took AP courses at local Kennesaw St. Very underwhelming experience. I can just imagine the 'academic standard" of Independence CC...
You should be smart enough to understand why some struggle and some don’t. Smh
It's little hard to be not cynical with the amount of institutional support these athletes receive to overcome their arduous circumstances at home (best dormitories on campus, unlimited utilities, free meals, sweet stipends, tuition-free education, individual mentorship, all sorts of counselling, private tutoring, quality medical care, etc). Just walk 5mins and show up to classes...no one is asking them commute 2hrs each way on city buses and survive on McDonalds dollar menu, while using public computers to study at a local library.
Yeah I understand some of these dudes are idiots. I played with dudes who took it to the house after their last football game . They had 15 hours left to graduate. Didn’t matter to them. They didn’t succeed in life. They get everything to be successful but sometimes it doesn’t work out. I’ve been around guys that football was the only thing that kept them out of jail or 6ft under. Some made it out with degrees and became successful. Unless people know what they’ve been through I don’t know if that’s easy to judge. I’m not making excuses because I’ve used the word idiot and stupid many times watching these guys on Last chance U but I also know their struggle. As for JUCO They don’t live in best dorms, you don’t get the stipends. If you got a pell grant that went to you school and the rest was scholarship. The guy brought up passing community college and that’s what I was replaying about. Obviously the bigger the school the more help a SA gets. JUCO we didn’t really have tutors. The GAs would help and they’d have them occasionally. I’m sure there’s more help now but it’s not the same as FBS schools.

I dunno man...Your childhood environment greatly shapes what kind of headspace you're in when you reach college age. It's clear a lot of these kids have been through things many of us don't have to and never had to deal with.
All excuses because so many in similar situations do get out without any help or a free ride. All you have to do is breath on test in CC and pass. Like the coach said, show up, sit up front and you will get a C and C's get degrees. They just do not have the drive or discipline. The bar is set low as it can be and they are not 11 years olds that dont know better or enough to meet that low bar. It is frustrating to watch especially when some of those guys are ballers and could start for any team in the country.
C and Bs get degrees you need a 2.5 in juco to transfer now.

These kids never had to do school work in high school teachers would give them the bare minimum GPA to play and in college, they would take Fake UNC classes. I graduated with a guy who played football at LSU he scored a 750 on his SAT with a 1.5 GPA and still got into school. Once there always made a 3.1 GPA magically but if he went to JUCO there is no way he could have passed.
He texted me one night to help him with his business statistics final because it was on excel & take home and it was literally 5 questions asking how to calculate the mean & median.
What year was this? That’s lower than NCAA minimum. A scholarship. You have to go through NCAA to get into school.
2008 after 4 attempts he went out of state to take and made the exact score he need .. surprise

You sure he had a 1.5 GPA? I don’t that’s physically possible
To get a scholarships with 1.5 regardless of SAT.

If they fudged some night classes or something but he didn’t get passed clearinghouse with a 1.5 GPA.
