Tuesday Discussion: Sun Belt Traditions
It's time for my yearly thread. Georgia Southern's 71st Annual Watermelon Cutting was this morning. This is the first campus event our new interim president has lead and the first time the Watermelon Cutting has ever been held on two campuses (Savannah and Statesboro).

What is your favorite non-athletic tradition at your school? or favorite memory?

Well, this is sort of athletic related. We like to have treasure hunts for where Fed-X has delivered our championship trophies.

Agree about Texas State and the pretty girls, tho it has been a while.

I think all those Elementary Education majors is part of the reason.

South Alabama #5 Jersey:
South has a tradition that started in 2010 where the #5 jersey is awarded to the most deserving Senior that has displayed leadership and hard work ethic. It is a tribute to Anthony Mostella, a former running back that was killed in a motorcycle accident prior to his senior season. It is a way to recognize a current leader on the team while honoring a former leader, as Mostella himself was known for those characteristics.

That's a great idea. I like when programs do things like that. It's a great way to honor a player for more than on the field performance.

Georgia Southern is known for Education and Nursing so can confirm it definitely is the reason

I mean let's be real here though. Isn't every school a party school? I live near a super conservative private D3 school here in Texas and those guys like to get wild just like anyone else lol.
