DALLAS (SMU) - The 24th-ranked SMU women's soccer team scored four second-half goals to defeat Sam Houston State by the score of 7-2 Friday night at Westcott Field. With the win, SMU improves to 3-1-1 while Sam Houston State falls to 1-3 on the year.

SMU got on the scoreboard first at the 11:18 mark as freshman forward Krystal Bailey shot the ball into the net after a rebound by Bearkat goalkeeper Melissa Sauceda. Autumn Browning gave SMU a 2-0 lead four minutes later. But the Bearkats capitalized on a foul in the box as Toffie Chavez connected on a penalty kick at the 21:18 mark. The Mustangs got their third goal of the game as senior Erin MacCallum took advantage of a SHSU GK rebound and recorded the goal at the 28:48 mark. Jo Fairclough scored SHSU's second goal at the 35:21 mark, taking advantage of an error by SMU goalkeeper Ariel House, stealing the ball and scoring for the Bearkats.

In the second half, it was all SMU. Jill Heinemann scored at the 73:25 mark followed by Kimber Bailey's first collegiate goal with a header off a free kick at the 80:23 mark. Heinemann got her second goal of the game 24 seconds later. Sophomore Adria Campbell closed out the Mustangs scoring with a successful penalty kick at the 84:09 mark.

SMU's next game takes place on Friday, Sept. 17, vs. third-ranked UCLA. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Westcott Field.
