SWAC Championship Returning to Legion Field

Game is scheduled for December 1. I guess they aren't counting on UAB to host the CUSA championship? Seems like that would be a real cluster if it played out that way.

Do them back to back. Parking would be hell but it might be a perfect storm on attendance.

I'm sure if we were hosting the C-USA championship our dumb@ss administration would find a way to play it on Sunday morning at about 9:30. I can see it now. All of the trash etc. from the SWAC championship game still in the bleachers, field still painted with SWAC logos, competing head to head for attendance against the Lord himself.

Last year the C-USA Championship Kicked off at 11:00 AM CST, SWAC Championship kicked off at 3:30 CST... Doable doubleheader.

If those game times are the same, that might create an extra festive atmosphere.

Yes!

If we had FAU in that game we could put 45K in there again with some stragglers from the SWAC Championships. I'd flood the tailgate areas with tickets for the SWAC patrons.

I love it. I knew the SWAC commish was getting grilled about not having events in Birmingham, especially since they're headquartered here. Now if only the SEC would step up and hold more events here.

We did a double header when McGoober was here. Not unprecedented.

He basically was fired for putting a conference in a bad deal in Houston that darn near bankrupted the conference. Attendance was better in Birmingham but Houston had the new stadium and we fell for it.

The SWAC championship game will be played in B'ham regardless of who the teams are. The C-USA championship game will only come to B'ham if UAB is the host team. We can hope that a conflict of this nature does actually work out. It would be a good problem to have.

RE: SWAC Championship Returning to Legion Field
Legion Field use to routinely host double headers. As recent as the 1970's Auburn use to play some of their home games there. The most interesting double header I read about was when Alabama played Tennessee the same day that Auburn played LSU there. Can you imagine all four of those fan bases there?

Incidentally, back in the day, Georgia played some of their home games at Georgia Tech because Atlanta was an easier destination than Athens for visiting teams.

We have participated in multiple double headers dating back to DIII days. It’s bit a big deal. It’s a great opportunity.

I'm hoping for a double header for all sorts of reasons.

means UAB's in the championship
Good for Bham
The atmosphere would be awesome

It would be best to be the first game of a double header to have limited trash.

It would be best to be the second game of a double header to have a potentially larger crowd.

Agree with this for sure. I'm kind of curious how many bammers would show up as FAU "fans" to root for Kiffin.
