Give them another look

Roasted, charred? With butter and garlic, red pepper-flakes?

May God have mercy on my soul.

OMIGoodness.
No matter how they're cooked they always have a bad aftertaste to me. It'll be good for the first few chews then transition to a flavor I just can't stand. Wish I liked them as they're a pretty versatile and healthy dish, but I just can't.

They really are a love hate thing though. I love them... my father can't stand them, though my first recollection of them was in his board room on his ship, and he swears he never would have let that happen lol

At my first station assignment the Battalion Chief was housed with us. He absolutely hated English peas, He said that growing up they ate them just about every meal because cans of peas were cheap and they were poor. He couldn't even stand the smell of them. He absolutely forbid them from being cooked in the firehouse when he was on shift.

One shift we had a fill-in working OT who had brought leftovers for lunch. He took his plate and microwaved it and about halfway through Chief starts gagging and says "You got ******* peas on that plate?" Sure enough he had a healthy helping of them. Chief just gets up, walks out, gets in his vehicle and leaves. We don't see him again until on a call late that afternoon and the first thing he asks is "Did y'all air out the station house?" 03-lmfao

Most of the people I know who hate brussel sprouts were forced to eat the slimy, mushy variation as kids. My parents apparently had an aversion to them, since I never had them until I was an adult.

Roasted with olive oil, salt, pepper, & a little cavender's until they have some char on them? SO GOOD.

That was my Dad and lima's. Grandma had a garden she started during the depression, and I still helped her go out and "forage" the couple times I was there for a visit in late '70's. She had, by then, it down to a pretty good science so when she grew the crops there would be bucket after bucket of the damn thing. My Dad grew up eating them, or having them on his plate... almost every meal.

I don't think I ever saw a lima in our house until I was in college, and even then it was probably a mistake.
