If was definitely one of those two that killed me. Hard to believe I've already been dead for 30 years.

...was actually the late '70s aerosol era......

I'm still laughing at that one....

Quote:January 23, 1978. On this date, Sweden announced it would ban aerosol sprays containing chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) as the propelling agent. It was the first country in the world to do so. Scientific evidence had mounted that CFCs were damaging to Earth’s ozone layer. Sweden was the first to act on this evidence, which came before before the discovery of the Antarctic ozone hole. Virtually every country on Earth ultimately followed Sweden in banning CFCs, via an international treaty known as the Montreal Protocol. According to a July 2014 ozone update in Physics Today, in the 30 years since the ozone hole was discovered, scientists’ understanding of the polar atmosphere has become much more complete.

I had a a doctor friend in the 80's tell me that 75% of the population would be dead from aids by now. He believed it completely. That was the "settled science" of the day.

I was in college when I first heard of AIDS. Ignored it, waited my whole life to get to college girls and wasn't going to let potential death slow me down.

I remember when hollywood idiots told us that the average temperature on the eastern seaboard would be 120 degrees by now.

I knew it was a load of BS and for once, I was right.

I know this is straying off topic but remember the Y2K scare? Everyone had to download the Microsoft '97 patch file to supposedly correct the "date counter" that may set off chaos and financial ruin across the globe. My grandmother at the time actually purchased some gold to protect against lack of access to cash. Gold is never a bad thing to have as a reserve but I thought it was funny at the time. In her defense, she was from the depression era when financial markets and money held in banks collapsed so in many ways the idea of economic catastrophe was very real to her. Anywho, I'm glad I survived Y2K!
