Had to quickly drive by the stadium checking on the sights. I did not see anything going on with the track! I expected to see tractors, dirt haulers, caterpillars, big ass trucks, etc. but.......... nothing looked different from two years ago. Did I miss it? What the deal?

Florida..... makes sense. Boone is North Florida this time of year. I made a magnetic bumper sticker that says "go back to florida" for some of the tourists. I'm sure you are an excellent and polite driver, in which case the sticker does not apply. The track is going, but it was never announced to be done this summer to my knowledge. A poster or two started a rumor because of equipment on the field a few months ago for maintaining the turf. Anyway, next time you're in town message me for a beer.

Needless to say, you have to have another track constructed before you can tear the old one down. We know where it is going to be built (old Watauga high property) but the school is still finalizing the plan for what else will be on the site. I can safely say that the track will be gone by 2020 when construction is underway on the new end zone facility that will be built where the current track is.

It will be gone far sooner than 2020. https://appstatesports.com/news/2018/4/2...ath=mtrack

It's my understanding, for the time being, the plan is to cover the track with turf. As JT said, most of the 3rd & 4th turns will be taken up by the North Endzone Building. Drawings do not show any seating in front of it and I'm not sure if there is room to put up the temp stands we've had the past few years. I'll be interested to know what the plan is to compensate for those 1500 seats. Other than the 1500 Club Seats in the North Endzone Building, DG is pretty determined not build any more seats until season ticket sales top 10K. With Marshall (21), unc-ch (22), ECU (23) & USA (25) coming to Boone, I'll be very surprised if new stands don't go up in the South Endzone fairly soon.

We are splitting hairs here. The end zone facility will be completed by the 2020 football season. That is the first season it will be used. A new track will have to be built before the old one is closed. Obviously the track will be torn out for the end zone facility construction, so the new track will be one of the first things built at old WHS. Things are happening but it’s going to take longer than people expect... which is why I told the GS fan that if he wanted to see the track gone best to wait until 2020. 2019 it’s all going to be a mess.

Question: Hey App fans, when is the track coming out:

Answer: Are you from Florida? Man Floridians are terrible drivers.

Unlike some local hardheads who would like to see Boone stay the way it was in the 60's, I love people from Florida. Made A LOT of money off those folks over the years. They roll into town, drop a lot of change and roll out about the time football season cranks up. They enable Boone's economy to chug along without industries that pollute our pristine rivers and clean air. Y'all come back now!

Tourism and a university are the best "industries" any community can have. As you state, clean and pollution free and in Florida it gives us the opportunity to keep property taxes lower with no state income taxes and very good roads. With all the complaints about tourists in Boone, we never had a restaurant wait which is a key indicator of tourism to me.

RE: App question
A lot do things are happening in campus right now. New health sciences building off campus will be dedicated next month. In the next four years, five forms near KBS are being torn down and four new ones are going up. A new parking deck is also going up starting this fall. Sanford Hall will be gutted and renovated starting next May. Hell the main entrance sign is getting updated right now.

The contractor for the new endzone project has been chosen and final designs are coming soon

All these finances for the future projects have been approved in the last 8 months. A lot of this has been building for years and is happening quickly, but not fast enough for some.

I was at app for 5 years and saw 4 new student buildings built as well as one under construction off campus not to mention all the non school buildings coming up, how fast do they want Boone to grow?

RE: App question
The building projects aren't as much growth as it is updating, although App will reach 20k students by 2020.

Sanford Hall hasn't been renovated in 50 years, doesn't have HVAC or the infrastructure for modern classrooms. The five dorms coming down (Gardner, Coltraine, Justice, Bowie and Eggers) all are several decades old and don't have A/C, study areas or private bathrooms/showers. The trend in dorms is more turn-key and less communal. The net gain of dorms after these four years is around 300, which might seem like a waste of $250 million, but it's turning those rooms from basically minimum-security prison cells to something that can attract top-level students. These are 50-year decisions being made.

Yeah, that was my major point and desire.

You guys don't know what real tourism is. Get off that mountain sometimes.

Our economy is driven by tourism. There is something up here for every season.
