RE: New Softball Coach
You keep bringing up the advantages that schools with a state lotto give to baseball, but recent performances don't back it up. On the whole, Alabama schools have outperformed Georgia schools in the sport. I posted the numbers in another thread.

Well, I guess not.
With that said, let's remove the excuse of not having updated locker rooms, etc. by upgrading & going from there.
UAB needs to market the baseball program better with Regions Park as selling point.. Use the Barons Thirsty Thursday promotion at every home game. Maybe try to sell gold cards as part of yout strategy but add promotions as an incentive to buy. Discounted concessions and promotions need to mimic Barons. And work out something to only play at Regions.

First thing - GA is not the only state with gaming supplemented scholarships.
Second - How many of this year's College World Series teams are from Alabama and how many of the 8 are from states who have gaming income?
Third - The best financially supported teams don't win every year, but they average more wins than those who have a lot less. Superior coaching and player talent usually are found together at the best supported schools.
I mentioned GA because I know they have Hope Scholarships available for their state universities' baseball teams to supplement their regular NCAA allotment. The latter are all Alabama schools can offer.

Thanks, Captain Obvious.

This is a poor representation as making the CWS is based off of luck. I'd concede looking at teams that made the Field of 64 bracket, but even that bodes well for the state of Alabama. Auburn, Samford and Troy all made the tournament, and South just missed the cut. Only Alabama and UAB weren't close.
Third - The best financially supported teams don't win every year, but they average more wins than those who have a lot less. Superior coaching and player talent usually are found together at the best supported schools.
I don't think I agree with this. College baseball is the last of the major sports where a school isn't at a disadvantage by not being P5, see Coastal winning a national championship a couple years ago.

I know exactly why you mentioned it, but the data doesn't agree with your theories.
See my responses.

Is it just "luck" that the three SEC teams in the CWS (along with the other 5 teams) all have gaming income?

Coastal Carolina is in a state that has gaming income. The Alabama teams are not. I guess they are just not "lucky" enough. P5 vs G5 is not the issue, but the number of scholarship players on a team can be.

Yes. Auburn's series against Florida was purely luck.

Mississippi also does not have a state lotto and yet they have 3 of the best programs in the country. Would it help? Yeah, probably. Does it matter as much as you believe? No.

Maybe our new softball coach will give our opponents a lot to worry about. Maybe cause some colitis!

Maybe not a lottery, but the Tunica and Gulf Coast casinos don't seem to miss it. How does MS use that income?

Thank you for that article. It should be reprinted in every media outlet in Alabama so voters can know what gaming can pay to the state - even without a lottery. As it is, the three Poarch Creek casinos pay ZERO state or local taxes and only voluntarily give to the local charities as they wish. Their employees probably pay state income taxes, but the casinos themselves pay almost nothing.
