It is a good question, but I'd be surprised if that happened. I was calling for him to play after the first couple of games last year, but in hindsight burning his redshirt was not a great idea.
I'm also not sure of why a lame duck staff would do this, when they won't be around next year. It's probably not the best move aimed at retaining him since the coaching staff he signed on with will be all gone if he is not playing.

Except he got beaten for the position by the other QB who was playing better. Some on their boards are thinking he may transfer now which is not uncommon these days.

Shon needs the game reps. Simple as that.

From Mitchell's first game to the Colgate game I have seen a huge improvement. He's going to be real good soon.

RE: 2018 Football Season
Shon’s play will be one of the key factors leading us to victory this weekend. And it will help set the course for the rest of our very tough, but winnable games ahead. His confidence needs a big jolt. Last week two or three quicker reads and a catch in the end zone and this conversation would be sillier than it already is.

RE: 2018 Football Season
There are 10 other guys on that field with Shon, along with 6 offensive assistant coaches and a head coach. Everyone of them need to improve, not just one guy.
I remember one of the preseason videos when asked about the best way to help a young QB. The answer was, be where we’re supposed to be when we’re supposed to be there. My interpretation, do your job. But, there’s a guy across from you that’s trying to do their job as well.
That’s what’s so great about this game. Who can beat the guy across from you more than they beat you?
Players need to prepare better, coaches need to prepare their players better, that will translate to the field.
I’m not ready to throw in the towel just yet. This week we get the win and build on it from there.

100% in agreement! We have talent on this team, everyone needs to step it up and look in the mirror. Not to quote Jim Mora, but if we win out we would be 7-3 and looking at PLAYOFFS!!!!!

Agree with everything above. My statement about Shon was simply that I believe in him. Very little separated him from having a really good game and the Tribe being shut out. Albany is not a bad team...just the worst we have played since Bucknell. It is a necessary win. They are way more experienced than we are but I have to believe we are overall more talented. Their defense is really small for a D1 defense. Hopefully that will work in our favor. And I anticipate a team that is this pass heavy will create some chances for our line AND linebackers to get in on the sack game.

Of course what he wants to do should play a huge role (maybe he doesn't want to be here 5 years), but I always felt that red-shirting him would have been/is a good idea. Part of that is about confidence. It's gotta be hard with a first season like last year. He seems to still be doing fine, but I worry about how he feels between the results of the games and the less-than-stellar O-line pass blocking.

Totally understood your context. The results aren’t there yet, but there is improvement in every position.

I didn't think our running game was this bad. Funderburke is averaging 2.9 yds and Wright is averaging 2.7 yds.
Individual Leaders Rushing Att Net Avg TD YPG
Funderburke 48 139 2 .9 0 34 .8
Wright 28 28 2 .7 0 18 .8 J .
Anderson 11 38 3 .5 0 9 .5
