RE: Fareed Zakaria: Why the Left Loses
"The Decline of the Centre-Left". I have voted for a blue dog dem in the past and likely would again if one existed any more. The move to the extreme left by progressives does nothing to enhance their party.

"Throughout the world, politics has shifted from core issues of economics to those of identity." "...people today are moved by issues of race, religion, ethnicity, gender and identity. And on those issues, the left faces a dilemma. It cannot celebrate identity and diversity without triggering a backlash among the older, whiter population". He had me until the last part. It cannot truly celebrate identity and diversity unless it stops castigating and demonizing that demographic, hence the properly applied label of hypocrites.

Democrats are adrift and choking in a miasma of differing messages.

Oh, and Zakaria is a creepy looking dude. He'd fit right in an old Dodge van cruising neighborhoods with pockets full of candy.

In 2000 Joe Lieberman was enough of a democrat to be picked as the VP.... In 2006 the party thought he was too far to the right and primaried him out...
