I couldn't find anything on it, but if he's not on scholarship it obviously won't affect the scholarship count. If he never played a snap that could play into whether or not his has to sit a year, because technically he could log that as his year off, no?
OL Eastwood Thomas redshirted his first year at Bama and then started ULM.
Gore scored two TD and played special teams at Bama. Scored TD in SEC championship game and started game game 9 months later at ULM.
Don’t how or what but I know they played and didn’t have to sit out.
Baker Mayfield had to sit our because of Big12 rules.

He always wanted to go to UCLA, but they we're out of scholarships. Obviously money is no object to his family. The offers from Michigan, Maryland and Ole Miss we're legit. We recruited him out of HS. I'd urge you to watch his film before making a decision about his ability.

I don't know man... His ratings aren't very good, and according to the LATIMES, he was 4th on the depth chart and if he had stayed he would have been 6th behind two highly thought of recruits. Makes me think his offers were on a hunch that he could be molded into something better based on his DNA.
He might be a decent SBC QB, but it's not like APP got a Top 10 4-Star that happened to be behind a superstar. He also has no live college experience at all, and spent his freshman year with a team that wasn't as good as APP.
I'm glad you guys got some depth, just not buying the hype that this is a big time get for you guys.
I agree. I talked to my brother who is a huge UCLA fan; he didn't even know this kid...
How many other true freshmen does he know?
Ppl know about talented freshmen QBs. UGA fans knew all about Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm, Justin Fields so forth

Those guys may have been grad transfers. If you graduate, you don’t have to sit out. Which is why Hurts could be the most sought after college free agent ever, he will graduate in December, and only be 20 years old.

Wasn’t Russell Wilson a grad transfer? I would rate him higher than jalen. Jalen can’t anticipate guys getting open.

Who may have been grad transfers? The ULM guys? Unless Eastwood graduated in 1 year. He redshirted at Bama and then started at ULM. They weren’t grad transfers that’s 100% for sure.
As for Hurts he needs to take his redshirt year and transfer . Go somewhere like the QB from UGA who went to UW. The returning starter has one year left at UW. Go there learn the system during fall and take over in spring during spring ball. Him graduating really doesn’t matter with a redshirt in his pocket. He could stay at Bama and waste a year of eiigibity and graduate or stay at Bama be a student and graduate I suppose.

Seems quite a few schools get excited about players from P5 programs.
Doesn’t matter if this guys every sets foot on the field, App has top three talent at QB in the SBC.

I bet you can't name that many SBC QBs without looking at a roster...

Three different freshman QBs registered passing stats for UCLA last season, and this guy isn't one of them. P5s recruit a lot of accomplished high-school QBs, but your average fourth-string P5 won't move the needle even in some FCS conferences.
Not trying to knock what App has at QB on the roster (because with Satterfield there's basically no chance he's screwed up in recruiting at that position) but I'll be surprised if he starts over someone like Zac Thomas with a season of experience.

I know the starters, that’s as far as I need to go.

I don't think anyone expects Gibbs to come in and take over, but at the same time you are way over estimating the experience of Thomas. Although he has the advantage of knowing of the offense through practice, you have to remember he's only thrown 10 passes for 33 yards. My curiosity is with RS Freshman Peyton Derrick. He passed Soph Jacob Huesman in the Spring for the backup spot and there was just something in the way Satterfield talked to about him at a function last Summer that made me think Scott thinks this kid can be really good.

Now the question becomes when will Jacob Huesman transfer ...
