I don't think anyone is booking our trip to the big dance or anything. Just excited for what should be a loaded team.
A dose of reality is my point. And anyone who has followed EMU under Murphy knows the point I am making.
“Reality” is that games haven’t been played yet. You have no clue how the season is going to go, just like I don’t. This team finished strong last season, returned 4 of 5 starters, and added some very talented players to the mix. Hence the preseason hype. Hence the excitement from this board.

The women dropped an exhibition tilt to D2 Michigan Tech tonight.

Very nice write up from Andy Katz about EMU and Buffalo, and how "scheduling up" shows aggression toward making the MAC a 2-bid conference. I think our schedule is a bit too daunting, but if we were to somehow surprise one of Kansas, Duke, or TCU, then people will really start to pay attention.
They are really going to need to pull off an upset on the road (outside of Rutgers) or almost run the table in conference to make the tournament. The home non-conference schedule (through not much fault of their own) is not going to provide many boosts or impressive wins to impress the selection committee.

With Murphy, the whole is often less than the sum of the parts. This year, we have the best parts (on paper). We'll see what happens.

I went to the first half of the game, I am afraid it might be a looong season for the girls this season. The second half must have been better, but 4 points in the first quarter.

Well said Holy. I believe the MAC basketball skill level is perhaps resurrecting itself to the glory years when several teams were very competitive against top competition. We need to get a draft pick from this year's MAC class to build up the conference. Who is the next George Gervin, Dan Roundfield, Dan Marjle, Grant Long, Chris Kaman, Carl Thomas, Charles Thomas, Earl Boykins, Gary Trent, Ron Harper, Bonzi Wells, Wally Szerbiak, IRA Newble, and lately Richaun Holmes, Nader. Didn't name all of our MAC players who made the league but we have been shut out the past two years.

One can tell where MAC hoops has been over the last 30 years by looking at NBA draftees 30, 25, 20 or 15 years ago vs. last 15.

Yes and that has been always the case with Murphy after the first year, many MAC fans have often remarked that EMU has always been one of the most athletically talented individuals who don't achieve much as a team.

Right, I'm excited about this season but temper that with Murphy's track record of underachieving with the most athletic team in the MAC. I'm excited but not pissing in my pants excited.

Oh I agree for sure. I think the point is that we actually give ourselves a chance for an at-large with this kind of schedule. Many great mid major teams often miss the tournament because they either A) didn't schedule well enough or B) didn't beat the good teams they scheduled in order to boost a resume.
We knocked out part A with an excellent road OOC schedule...now comes the difficult part B: beating a very good team or two in their building.

That's pretty darn good.
Murphy has the best facility, best recruiting grounds and goose eggs after 6 years. I'm optimistic this season but so far he's done less with more talent.
Tell me that Bronk's team over achieved vs. Duke.
P.S. Remember that GLIAC teams have beaten D-I teams in the past.
C'mon Steve, you are better than that. There are D-1 teams like U-D Mercy who I am sure Ferris would kill this year and then there are D-1 teams that are actually NBA prep schools like Duke. Equating those teams as well as evaluating Bronkema's ability on one game is ridiculous.
That being said I was among those calling for Murphy's head last year during the losing streak. You have been a solid supporter of Rob and his zone throughout and I must admit that you were correct. He does not develop talent, engage the EMU community or coach offensive basketball very well. He is, however, the most successful basketball coach we have had at EMU in the over 20 years since Ben Braun left. You were right being in his corner.
Our 2nd team might beat UDM this year.
I wouldn't write UDM off this year.
After attending their preseason showcase, I was very surprised with what I saw.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Coach Davis has a first year like Murph's first year at EMU.
Keith you might indeed be onto something. Davis has his kid who was a 3 star guy along with a bunch of transfers. McFolley and Blackshear returning are not exactly stiffs either. This is not going to be Sienna Hts or Rochester.

Simply put, we can't look past anyone, just ask North Florida!

Contrary to the men..... WBB seems to be off to a good start.
3-2, but their 2 losses are to Power Conference teams. One of which was Illinois who they took to OT and nearly beat.
They play UDM tomorrow at home.
