Jameson Hannah is a good pro prospect. Top 5 round pick from what I've seen. Granberg is their best hitter statistically, though.

Conn looks hittable. Doesn't have a ton of Ks and isn't a guy that will be drafted high. Got hit pretty hard against Valpo and Bradley at the league tourney. And he's a righty.

DBU played 6 games in 5 days at the MVC tourney. Maybe some of their arms are tired.

RE: Fayetteville regional
Selection show quick write up

https://dbupatriots.com/news/2018/5/28/b...ville.aspx

The DBU Baseball team was announced as the No. 3 seed at the Fayetteville Regional on today's NCAA Selection Show. It marks the fifth consecutive year that the Patriots have advanced to the field of 64, making DBU one of only 10 teams in the nation to punch their ticket to the postseason in each of the last five years.

The Fayetteville Regional will be hosted by the University of Arkansas, who enters as the No. 1 seed after finishing the season 39-18 and 18-12 in the Southeastern Conference. Southern Mississippi will be the No. 2 seed after posting a 43-16 record. The Golden Eagles also won both the Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles. The No. 4 seed at the Fayetteville Regional is Oral Roberts. ORU finished with a 38-18 record and won the regular-season and tournament titles in the Summit League.

DBU will face Southern Miss at Baum Stadium on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

After reading up on DBU we probably need to start Sandlin against them, but I won't fault the coaching staff if they choose to roll the dice.

How many USM fans think will be in attendance? Think 500 will make it? That would be impressive imo.

Also....if USM wins the regional and ECU losses theirs....then we get a chance for some PTP Magic eh?

Hattiesburg American article right after the selection show;

Berry said Monday he will, in all likelihood, send Sandlin to the mound against Dallas Baptist.

“We haven’t look at it yet,” he said. “But the way we went in the (C-USA) tournament, I can’t see where that would be any different. I don’t buy into seeds. Everybody’s got a Friday night guy. The main thing for us is to win Game 1 and stay in that winner’s bracket.”

Basically a zero chance Sandlin isn’t starting Friday.

yeah.....toss your ace vs. the 3 seed.....

that's fk'n genius if you were the last picked on the playground....

edit: did you give any thought what 'seed' that plants in Powers' mind???

if I'm Powers, I'm pissed the fk off.....it shows a lack of confidence when that rotation change worked earlier in the season.....

do you think the hawgs start their's in g1......

RE: Fayetteville regional
from one of the hawg posters.....

Quote:I don’t think that determination makes the slightest difference in a regional. This isn’t to say that having held back your theoretical best pitcher for a winners bracket game doesn’t make a difference. But the goal isn’t to have our best pitcher throw in the winners bracket, it is to go 2-0 with whomever we use and win the regional. The real advantage comes from this:

Can you afford to hold back a #1 or #2 pitcher to a championship game in a regional?

In 2010, we started #3 TJ Forrest against Grambling State which allowed us hold back our starters for winners bracket and championship game. It worked out and we won the regional, but it still took us 4 games to close the regional. The advantage of pitching our #3 was neutralized.

What you can’t afford is to leave a regional without throwing one of your best pitchers. Don’t overthink things and throw your guys in the best order to win in 3 - whatever DVH thinks that is.

sound familiar??????????

Powers, Sandlin, Powell........period...

RE: Fayetteville regional
Powers did great in the conf. tourney. Plus he'll have 8 days rest. Powers ain't no spring chicken! He must pitch game 1. Save Sandlin for game 2. Game 2 will either be a win or go home or it'll be a chance to move into the winners bracket. We'll need Sandlin for game 2.
