Pipe dream. Been in the planning stages for so long and still nothing but press conferences and promises.

You think the hotel is a pipe dream...or just the office tower?

Seems like the tower is no longer on the horizon. I will believe the rest of the project when I see it. This group is great at throwing parties and holding press conferences. It's the moving of dirt they seem to have problems with.

Anything less than an iconic tower is a waste of time and big disappointment. This is a total waste of that real estate and not a fulfillment of the promise made to the city when they first acquired it. Slight of hand, call it bait and switch, if I ever saw it. Such a disappointment. Nothing to be excited about.

I seem to recall some folks on mt.org saying that the Central Station redevelopment (especially the movie theater) would never happen either.

Hopefully, the Carlisles get the tenant they need to turn the 200K square foot office into a 400K square foot one.

Somehow I lost track of this thread weeks ago after the heads-up.

Now, word is...FedEx to Gibson is not a done deal. Might be looking for something else.

We have heard so much stuff over the years from Carlisle, I'm just really really skeptical of what may or may not happen...

I read today where another developer is looking to build a 6-story building near Loflin Yard.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new hotel in Central Station.

It's just a matter of time before Belz does something with the old bank building at Beale & Main.

Not to mention the St. Jude planned redevelopment around the Pinch.

Word on the street...FedEx will be opening an office complex downtown in a landmark building.

Existing or new construction?

People think getting Fedex or IP to build towers downtown is so easy, as if they are the first ones to think of it. Richard Smith has indicated an openness (in the open-ended future) to building IFF there were enough employee demand. Didnt seem enthusiastic one way or the other about it, though.

Bad take on a few levels.

Expect architectural renderings presented publicly soon. And a ribbon cutting. World class facility plans.

FedEx needs to put some part of it’s business Downtown. Granted you’re far from HQ, but still close to hub and the city could use it. I’m sad to hear this fell through.

That makes no sense, if Alan wasn’t onboard then they never would have made it as far as they did in the negotiations. My gut tells me that because the convention center funding/contracts got approved then that gives the developers from New York the green light to pursue contractors in building the new office tower and the Lowe’s hotel. If FDX behind closed doors committed to being the anchor tenant in the new tower then they can get the funding from investors to start construction

Why does FedEx NEED to put anything downtown?

Are they having trouble getting people to take jobs based in SE Memphis, Collierville and Oakhaven that will jump at the chance to work downtown?
