This is a great deal for those of you who haven't seen the 60 Minutes on Allegiant.

I have flown Allegiant to Florida probably a dozen times and never had a problem with them.

Ironically I booked a flight to Savannah/HHI 10 minutes before the piece came out. Still safer than driving though.

I thought maybe Allegiant was the name of a graduate transfer quarterback.

Doss, as the majority shareholder in Allegiant, would you kindly address some of the issues that have come to light in this thread?

RE: Allegiant to UCLA
Or, for a very small amount more you can fly Frontier direct from CVG to LAX. You'll fly on brand new A320s and on an airline that has a 5* safety rating.

Google Flights says $403 round trip leaving on Friday and returning on Sunday.

Or if you want to take the Saturday morning flight and get to LAX at 10am and fly out on Sunday, then it is only... $293 round trip.

Point is, check out Frontier. I feel much more comfortable flying them than Allegiant and have had nothing but good experiences.

Quote:(From the 60 minutes report)

For the past seven months, we have been scrutinizing 'service difficulty reports' filed by Allegiant with the FAA. They are official, self-reported records of problems experienced by their aircraft. What we found raised some disturbing questions about the performance of their fleet. Between January 1st, 2016 and the end of last October, we found more than 100 serious mechanical incidents, including mid-air engine failures, smoke and fumes in the cabin, rapid descents, flight control malfunctions, hydraulic leaks and aborted takeoffs.

John Goglia: Something significant is going on and it should be addressed

We shared the reports with John Goglia who has more than 40 years of experience in the aviation industry, including nine years as a presidential appointee to the National Transportation Safety Board. Now retired, Goglia remains a respected figure in the aviation industry and occasionally testifies as an expert witness on safety issues.

John Goglia: There's another one, engine fire.

We wanted to know what he thought of Allegiant's 60 unscheduled landings and 46 in-flight emergencies.

Steve Kroft: I mean, is that common for an airline of this size?

John Goglia: Very, very high for an airline of this size. I hate to make comparisons-- but we've seen that before in airlines that are no longer with us that had experienced a number of accidents and killed a bunch of people. I don't wanna repeat that. So I try to push on Allegiant to-- to-- clean up their operation.

Steve Kroft: What do those reports say about Allegiant?

John Goglia: Well, just the service difficulty reports say that-- somebody's not paying attention.

Steve Kroft: You're a former member of the NTSB. Would you fly on an Allegiant plane?

John Goglia: I have encouraged my family, my friends and myself not to fly on Allegiant.

They will provide oxygen for free, but reasonable cabin pressure is certainly not guaranteed.

Funny, between my wife and I, 3 of our 4 flights on Allegient has either had a problem, been redirected, or cancelled at the last moment (with no attempt to get her on another flight).

The 10 am arrival to LAX is a bit gamy of a proposition. It's 28 miles from LAX to the Rose Bowl, assuming no delays, you are playing with about an hour window of getting there, if the game is in fact at noon.

I believe Allegiant has had 25 major engine failures over a two year period.

I do not fly on airlines that do not have First Class. It's first class or fractional.

I have heard Allegiant is below Frontier which is below Southwest.

i'm surprised doss has even heard of allegiant. i've only flown em once, direct to san juan. our travel crib didn't make the flight and they were super unresponsive. they answered approximately zero phone calls as wife called them daily. the allegiant representative in puerto rico airport was taking our information down on her hand. she didn't even have a notebook, just writing on her hand. nice enough girl, but you expect a little bit more

RE: Allegiant to UCLA
I have a fear of flying that probably plays into this, but I won't fly any of the budget airlines. Southwest is the closest to a budget airline I will fly, and obviously they have had some recent issues. They've always been great for me, but I don't fly frequently enough to have a very informed opinion on the subject.

All of the stuff from the 60 minutes segment happened more than a year ago and have been fixed.
