Is Miami still considered a college baseball powerhouse?

The point is we will get one or the other. Only time we didn't was getting number 1 overall North Carolina. I'd kill for an Arkansas draw. Hope you guys win it

I don’t mean this to be snarky but if FAU scheduled more OOC away games, you’d have a chance to host.

RE: 2018 CUSA baseball tournament
It's pretty difficult to host. We play as competitive an out of conference schedule as many smaller schools

The problem is these are all done by location first in baseball so we are at a disadvantage

We had the best rpi in cusa before the tourney. It was 31. Get to the finals of the tourney and get a 3 spot in the number 1 team's regional .. doesn't really mesh

Other cusa teams have a way better shot to get to super regionals with this dumb setup. Like I said , id kill for an Arkansas type ..

They finally are seeded the supers by seed instead of geography this year. That was dumb too

You had the best RPI after the tournament. FAU at 33 and USM at 40. Tough draw in your regional. We have to face Arkansas, who is the 5th seed. We will have to beat a very good Dallas Baptist team to get a chance at Arky. Good luck in Gainesville. I will try and watch your games if possible.

Didn't check after but it's one reason baseball tourney isn't as good to me. Non revenue sport so they go by geography too much You should be seeded by earning it and merit. By that rpi, fau is the top 3 seed.. and the get number 1 Florida ..

Had they won the tourney and such they prob still would have got Florida. Geography over merit gives other cusa teams a way better chance as I said Cuz we will inevitably get stuck with a Florida powerhouse.

The one year USM made it to Omaha in 2009, Florida was a national seed and we beat them in a Super Regional in Gainesville, so it can be done. Good luck.

Of course upsets happen. Just think geography is a detriment to us in a sport that puts it over a better draw that is earned. Other cusa qualifiers usually get better draws

How come we're (FAU) not in a DeLand regional? Wouldn't that be the closest regional?

With the three Florida regionals this year, Jacksonville (RPI 18) heads to Gainesville because they wouldn't place conference mates at the same regional (super regionals are okay). So with that, USF (RPI 19) heads to DeLand and because both Stetson and USF are mid-majors, they wouldn't send another mid-major there. The limited # of Florida schools receiving bids also worked against us. Man, that Tallahassee bracket looks brutal though.

I don't mind being sent to Gainesville this year. Jacksonville is a comparable mid-major to us while Florida has lost 6 out of their last 7 and Columbia is probably the easiest 4 seed in the field. If we can win the regional, NC State or Auburn is a much more favorable draw than some of the other brackets for the super regional too. We're definitely a scrappy team capable of making some noise.

We also won the Tuscaloosa regional in 2002 (lost the Atlanta super regional to Georgia Tech).

I'd like to see us schedule some more road series, as well. Rice does a great job of this. While we've scheduled some good OOC mid-major opponents (our NC SOS this year is 30), it's also the level of midweek competition in the state of Florida. We've also got to win those road series as well – unlike Oregon this year. Haha.

Nothing but respect for Rice baseball. And Wayne Graham. Looking forward to seeing you guys back at the regionals.

They did play in the College World Series as recently as 2015 & 2016. But they definitely were a very young club this year. And with Morris retiring, next year will be very telling. They're in a similar situation as Rice.
