I am glad you are enjoying your routine reading of Nashville newspapers up in North Dakota... did you clip the coupon to Fulin's Asian Cuisine yet? It's a winner! 04-cheers

West Florida having issues with football scheduling already (just their fourth season of the sport). This was a big reason why UNA looked to reclassify. I live in Pensacola and would love for UWF to join the ASUN and, of course, Big South in football.

I love the exposure in Florida and everything that comes with it but I think we have enough members there at this time.

Pensacola is basically in Alabama. Its actually a good ways from the other Florida schools.

It would be good for Lipscomb, UNA and KSU to have West Florida.

Yes, I live in Pensacola and it's about 6 hours to Jacksonville. I can get to Florence, Atlanta, and Nashville in similar times (or less).

RE: Any More To Be Invited?
I would like to throw 2 more in the hat...

New Orleans

St Louis...

I know St. Louis is a stretch, but New Orleans could leave a football conference to join the ASun and their in the basic footprint.

If you could somehow convince St Louis to join, I see easy multiple bids with this lineup.

NJIT
Liberty
Lipscomb
St. Louis
UNA
KSU
New Orleans
UNF
JU
Stetson
FGCU

Would make baseball a beast as well.

Then if you need a 12th, ho for West Florida.

St. Louis is great in a vacuum. Though I find it hard to believe that the conference would invite another school on an island without a travel partner as long as the conference wasn't desperate.

Looking at it from St. Louis's perspective, it is hard to see the benefits to joining the A-SUN as-is. The A-10 typically has multiple bids already and they have history within the conference. They are likely trying to be the next Big East target and joining the A-SUN doesn't move them towards that goal.

New Orleans looks like a good target for the A-SUN profile. I would be worried about their commitment to athletics as they moved down from Division I after Hurricane Katrina right?

Like I said, St. Louis is a stretch, but could see some benefits for both ASun and St. Louis.

New Orleans had an exploratory year when they were considering dropping to D2, they did a split D1-D2 year and ultimately decided to stay D1. The left the Sun Belt and joined the Southland. And oddly enough, they were thinking about starting football, as to one reason they went Southland. But I think New Orleans could be a good possibility for the ASun if they are looking for a 10th.

RE: Any More To Be Invited?
Both teams are way too far out of the geographic footprint. New Orleans would be over 6 hours from the closest ASUN campus (Florence). Yet, the entirety of the Southland is all less than 10 hours from their campus and four of them in-state.

If you asked me today I’d say Bellarmine, N.C. A&T, and Winthrop (because College of Charleston wouldn’t accept an invite).

I’m not certain they would be. The BSC is a perfect geo fit for them. However, I do think the ASun is a slight step up in competition.

I would assume if NCAT went anywhere it'd be to the Big South along with Hampton. NCAT could thrive in that conference.

RE: Any More To Be Invited?
Over at D2 Message Board, there's some rumors swirling about Bellarmine:

Quote:C D Kaplan posted today that the Knights to D1, Atlantic Sun is "almost a done deal". Task force appointed to raise $10M

Quote:The D1 study was presented to admin officials in early March. The recommendation was to go D1.

The proposal is being studied and options explored. It is being presented and will be voted on at the May trustees meeting. Decision will be to move all sports, which involves an array of logistics. It is doubtful that there will be major KH renovation. Suites and signage is where the revenue opportunities are at. You can look for more commercial signage and maybe a new scoreboard. The university funds are tight now and no capital campaign is currently planned.

Transition will begin in 2021 season. There are still many issues to resolve. Among them is negotiating withdrawal from GLVC, multiple D1 conference opportunities.

No, I looked at it also on the D2 boards.

Also read something about them wanting to add football in the future. But a lot of schools say that and never go through. (North Florida, FGCU...)
