If it's about the elements during the winter, then its not enclosed so you really don't gain anything. If it's about the rain, rain usually is accompanied by wind so its going to blow in. It would be better than not having any roof, but it would be better with walls. If it's about lighting, then ok, maybe. I hope they modify the design or add to for later.
I think you need it for cold mornings or really hot summer workouts when you don't want to expose your players to high heat indexes and possible dehydration. I'm not for pulling the players completely out of the elements but if you have one workout on the fields in the elements and additional workouts indoors for throwing, training, etc. then I think its good to utilize an IPF
Mobile is the rainiest city in the country and the rain is frequently accompanied by lightning. The facility will have a lightning protection system, so the practices lost every season should be a thing of the past.

Rik, the priority is to find financing now for our proposed on campus football stadium. The practice facility is needed now. It is designed, and is being erected to add the sides and to be closed in later. It’s really as simple as that. Not complicated at all.
That makes total sense. Thanks for clarifying. Is there a masterplan for on campus? Is on the intramural fields in some of those pics? I have been to Ladd several times but never on the USA campus

Can't remember if I lived in Troy at the time or not. That thing was nasty.

There is a master plan on south’s website. Yes a football stadium is on it.

100+ degrees heat.
it
Of course you understand that it will not be air conditioned until it is closed and a/c is better than outside heat. Just saying.

True. Mobile can get very hot in mid-August, when fall practice begins.

Jag Indoor Practice Facility
The South gets a lot of lightning April to September. We just had one of the graduation sections postponed at GSU due to lightning or threat of lightning.

RE: Jag Indoor Practice Facility
I saw it this morning. Looks like it will be ready before start of fall practice, according to construction crew.
