That contract will never go full term.

Good chance the SBC will never play one inning over there as there may not be an SBC by 2020.

Stuff happens, and it will.

They couldn't come up with a better moniker? The fightin' Baseball Biscuits.

Nice ballpark though. . .

About 830 miles / 12 hr. Drive from South TX.

Believe me there are FAR FAR worse minor league names...
-Wichita wingnuts
-traverse city beach bums
-normal cornbelters
-alberquere isotopes
-Binghamton rumble ponies
-

How can you pick on the isotopes? I mean they're Hot. Flat out Radioactive.

Beats the old name Dukes and how many teams have names inspired by the Simpsons?

RE: Montgomery, AL to host Sun Belt Baseball Tournament 2020 to 2024
Depending on who's hosting at college campuses, you have a expected ticket sale number. I know the Cajuns have almost 4000 season tickets, and if 50% of those sign up for the tournament (which I'm sure would actually be a much larger number) you'd have at lease that much in sales. Does it guarantee that many fans at all the games? No, but you do have the sales. Additionally, when the games are on college campuses you do have some travelers who stay in local hotels and eat at local restaurants which helps the the local economy which most of us I would think would appreciate. I'm sure Montgomery is expecting the same.

I hope the conference is getting plenty of money from the city (in one form or another) as I don't think ticket sales will be large (unless they require each university to purchase a certain amount) as I don't think you'll get 200 people for the largest majority of the games. JMO

Sun Belt will look the exact same in 2020...

Now 2023 and 2024 may be a different story when all the P5 TV contracts are set to expire...

The SBC will now be playing in a better stadium and better setting then the SEC plays their baseball tourney in. Now, we will not draw like them, but I'm telling you, I've watched games at both venues, we have it better then they do.

I really hope this is something the city of Montgomery gets behind. And attendance has a chance to be better here then at an on campus site when the host is knocked out.

I wonder if Pensacola doesn't get considered because it is practically next door to USA.

The stadium is fantastic and fans would be able to combine baseball with the beach.
Tournaments at a vacation destination would get more attendance IMO.

Right, I said Coastal, because you know the Sun Belt wouldn't bring the tourney to Boone. If the Apps have a real chance, I'll head down, but won't do it if we had just played in the Camellia Bowl five months prior.

They should put the basketball tourney in Boone. Then we can all go skiing after the games.

That's better then Hot Springs.

Actual attendance, yes. Ticket sales, I don't think so. JMO

We also have BayBears stadium in Mobile we will use for this and next season, and Stanky at USA's campus. We could have had 2 games at once in Mobile.

I don't know how Montgomery will work without having a team, but at least it is a nice stadium and centrally located in the Sunbelt.

Could always use Patterson Field as well if necessary.

So rainouts shouldn't be to detrimental if they are early in the tourney, if they utilize both fields. Wonder if that is on the table???

When i first saw we were playing in Montgomery, my first thought was that we would be playing at Patterson Field.

I know they use both state baseball finals. I would think it would be available if needed. I was thinking the same thing that it would be at Patterson Field.

Minor league schedules are a tricky thing to work around. You got to get the dates in advance.

What's wierd is that we could work it out with Montgomery, but possibly not with Pensicola. Both the Wahoos and Biscuits play in the Southern League.

Pensacola might not have wanted it ... I also believe that Troy could be used as a back up site since it is turf.

RE: Montgomery, AL to host Sun Belt Baseball Tournament 2020 to 2024
What I am impressed with Montgomery is that they didn't tear down there old venues when newer ones were built. When ASU built their nice new stadium, Montgomery reinvested in the Cramton Bowl, they found new games to be played there to keep it relevant in the city. When they built Riverwalk Park, they didn't tear down Paterson Field. In fact, the last time a saw it, about a year ago, it looked ready for play.

It's proof that a city can have new facilities, as well as still support the old, historic facilities if done correctly.

It's something I hope Mobile can do if/when South builds an on campus stadium. It what some Birmingham people are hoping can happen if the city ever actually builds their new stadium, and still keep Legion Field, however, both of those are city owned, unlike Montgomery and Mobile. You never know where these competing new football leagues may put a team, and Cramton and Ladd would make great homes a possible team.

It's an awesome name and a great park. Had the chance to check it out when we were down for the Camellia Bowl. Really enjoyed Montgomery.

Agree 100%! I thought the Crampton Bowl was great. Wish more places would save these historic venues.
