Most of the donations to UT are restricted by donor to specific need or cause (many fund student scholarship), and what monies-or how much do you think UT gets from TV: hint not much if any at all. UT has frozen tuition 7 years out of last 10 (3 years by their choosing), plus UT currently ranks 9th lowest out of 14 public 4 year colleges in Ohio and has the highest tuition rate in state (85% of all students can some form of discount). While staff and faculty numbers are lower than a decade ago, while all other operating costs go up (utilities, purchases etc...). The UT operating budget allocated to capital improvements is very small ($500,000), so almost every construction project you see on campus is from biannual state capital funds. Until UT gets sustained or growth in enrollment, funds beyond just running the operation will be very limited.

restricted? yea like a college is going to turn down money. just look at savage hall.... "restricted" you say

Renovations of Savage Arena were funded by donors who dedicated money to that specific project-exactly the type of restricted funds that I was referring to (There are also unrestricted funds donated that can be used for any project). But just because the UT Foundation raises $xxxxxxxxxx does not mean it can all go towards campus improvements.

i literally said that in my first post.

You did not, you inferred that UT Foundation has all these donations plus UT has a large operating budget both flush in all these "monies", while myself and other posters have pointed out neither is the case. The monies-beyond state capital budget allocations to colleges in Ohio (competitive funds)-are very limited and restricted in terms of being able to use these for campus improvements.

yea is pisses me off when someone intentionally misrepresents what I said, or makes comments based on no facts or understanding of the situation, but then immediately becomes defensive and argumentative when others point out problems with their statements not founded in reality. I totally respect ones right to express an opinion, but own up to it as stated and don't dismiss what others say only because you disagree or see it only as a personal attack-take the opportunity to learn from others-one reason I like following posts here is to learn.

know the source. If he's not trolling on purpose for those reactions, he's the luckiest fisher on the planet. Not worth the anguish. Save it for my more legitimate atttacks on your credibility and opinions. 05-bump

not to worry as no anguish on my part, but if you are going to post an opinion, expect others to offer their own including specifics and actual facts and data/evidence-thats all I am saying. Also personally not worried about attacks on my credibility, I have 20+ yrs at UT and have knowledge and experience on many topics and issues and continue to have contacts and ongoing discussions with senior and experienced staff at UT, City and other local agencies and groups on a wide range of current issues that I can post somewhat knowledgeable on. And perhaps most importantly, if I am not informed on the topic you will not see me posting on it, unless it is to ask a question so I can actually learn something.

"you" meaning "me" or "you" in the general sense because I always welcome the facts, data, yada... presented on this board regards UT operation. Fish in a barrel. :D "20 plus" years. So YOU'RE to blame! lol Don't recall you asking any questions though.

Got any?

Yep 20+ years and see myself as more of the solution than the problem (have given years of service to UT and our students, taught hundreds and successfully mentored dozens, been involved with recruitment/retention efforts, campus planning, etc...)-and also well aware of challenges and issues that remain at UT, as well as its limitations. And I post widely across very topics and often post questions on topics related to the Rockets that I know nothing about.
