GCU season ticket prices up 200%
Was on the GCU forum but thought everyone would be interested that slowly but surely GCU is inching it's way toward dealing with stuff like a non profit school has to. From $5.00 and/or free tickets (unreal, and yes, I'm jealous of those prices), to $15.00 a ticket this coming season, which is still very reasonable. However, I'm curious to see how it will affect their attendance. I know when we lower once a year GA tickets to $5.00 we also get sellouts at the Pan Am. That however is not sustainable when you are truly a non profit operation. I'm just curious what all the other WAC schools are paying for season tickets and individual game tickets? Are you also required to make a donation on top of the price of the tickets?

I'm not so sure this has as much to do with for-profit/non-profit as it does basic principles of supply and demand. Lopes averaged 99.62% capacity of GCU Arena last season. I wasn't an Economics major, but I think that means GCU has nearly hit the maximum supply of tickets it can provide. Doesn't that mean that increased prices should/will naturally follow?

Attendance might drop a tad but the financial boost should be substantial.

What's the justification for the price increase?

I have seen Universities increase the price of tickets based on win total and post season play to name a couple.

RE: GCU season ticket prices up 200%
Not exactly sure, but it was just a matter of time. Season Tickets have been pretty inexpensive and I would say they probably still are. The tickets are zoned now, so the better the seat, the more expensive. My tickets did not go up 200%, they actually only went up 66%, but I get an alumni discount, so that helps. I imagine demand is the biggest driver. In the first few years, a lot of tickets were given out to employees and outside non-profit groups. However, last season that rarely happened and if it did, it was only during the time students were gone for Christmas Break.

I can tell you it has ZERO to do with for profit or non profit. When you become a for-profit entity there is an influx of cash... That's it. There is no more cash from stocks coming into the university. That initial IPO was used to build out the online and campus infrastructure. Now the university makes a profit the same way other universities do. Our biggest difference is that GCU has a robust online enrollment which is what drives most things. That is not going away, so nothing really changes as far as income for the university.

I have heard that there is a waiting list now for season tickets so it makes sense to raise the prices. While I hate having to pay higher prices, I will certainly do it and can understand why it is happening. In fact, over the next few years I expect the prices to rise considerably. GCU offers almost 40% of the arena seats to students at little to no cost. Someone else (i.e., season ticket holders) needs to cover that cost.

Just wanted to clarify here. Tickets were were zoned in the past as well. Rows 1-7 were first tier ($200), rows (8-13) were second tier ($100) with the rest of the rows in the lower deck and upper level being third tier ($50).
Now I am being told there are only two zones/tiers. Zone one includes rows 1-13 ($300) with the rest of the rows in zone two ($100). Since m seats are in row 8, I went from $100 to $300. In short, those in rows 8-13 got the worst of the deal.
There is a 10% discount for faculty and staff and a 20% discount for alumni.

RE: GCU season ticket prices up 200%
Prediction. Attendance will drop at GCU, especially if they don't do so well. I'm not flaming, it's just a fact this is what happens when prices go up. You will lose some fans who attend. They will stay home and watch the game on GCU TV like thousands of budget challenged Aggie fans do watching games on ESPN3 and Aggie vision. Imagine a family of 5 could watch a game for $25.00! Now it's $75.00 for a family of 5. That is a substantial difference. Like I said, when just general admission is at $5.00 we sell out the Pan Am. That's why IMO the constant chest pounding about how supportive GCU fans are and your attendance figures are skewed because if all the other schools in the WAC priced their tickets at $5.00 sit anywhere you would see a sky rocket in attendance everywhere. I'll never forget the first game I went to GCU Arena to see the Aggies & Lopes play and I paid $2.00 for tickets! I couldn't believe it!

Is pricing different for fans who are renewing their tickets as opposed to new buyers? I know where I work, we don't charge a difference between people renewing them and new STH's. Looking at purchasing season tickets now that I've moved on, so just trying to collect as much info as I can.

I would assume they are the same. However, I do not know. Anyone know?
