He had just retired after hitting the 700 career win mark.

I'm not sure why Ohio ever got rid of Hunter. That AD Tom Boeh said it was because he could't recruit a point guard.

Boeh screwed over Pat Hill at Fresno St. Told Pat Hill he couldn't afford his 1.2 million salary. He cut him to $800,000 for one year before firing him. Now the head man at Fresno is making close to to 2 million. Boeh got demoted to an administrative position where he is hanging on until retirement after being known as a young gun at Ohio.

With Hunter some of it was the budget at the time. Today its a different deal at Ohio with charter flights out of the Athens Airport. Program is buying home games now to pad win totals. If Hunter had some of these advantages when coaching at Ohio you would have to wonder how he would do.

His death of course was a shock. You just never know and it could happen to any off us.

Hunter was robbed of an NCAA appearance when his pre-season NIT-winning team didn’t get a bid.
