Glad he's getting another chance. Not sure if it is the same story you were referring to above, but I found this STORY.

it was all about how much cash they could make and fold.

most people call that stealing.

You're kidding right? They were losing money, as nearly any such business would as they are starting up. First season payroll, just for the players was close to $30M. Then add coaches, front office people, training staff ticket takers, support staff, etc. Then add stadium rentals, equipment, marketing, insurance, transportation, accounting, etc., etc.

They were selling tickets as low as $15 a piece, and had total gate of <500,000. Yeah, they had a TV contract, but I will bet it was sold at a very cheap cost just to get in the door. They didn't make any cash.

No one seems to know why the dude came in with the big cash infusion and then decided to take his ball and go home. They are now saying he does not get to keep the IP rights to the gambling tech, as was initially reported. Not clear at all what if anything he got out of it. But, billionaires tend to be eccentric at best. Maybe he was just bored and wanted to yank a whole lot of people's chains.

pretty obvious you've never owned a business before.

if you're only paying these players 60k and you just got a gift of 250 million and you fold soon after, then there's no more that needs to be said.

Reports are he didn't just dump $250M in right when he made the deal. It was going to be over time. Reports also state he lost $70M.

The AAF did not have sufficient funds to even start the season, they were 10s of millions in debt even before the influx of $75m (was not $250m) was made. Ebersol and Polian have a lot of explaining to do as to why they had no solid multi year business plan and sufficient investment in place before first game was even played. Clearly as a new league ticket and TV contract revenues are not enough, it will take years to build brand before they become significant revenue sources, thus need for set of solid committed investors willing to seek 100s millions into league operations fro day one until league can turn profit years later.
