Next seasons team...
Correct me if I am wrong. There are seven returning players next season: Bryant, Sullivan, Perry, Gueye, Hurtado, McCoy, and Reynolds, plus four signed newcomers, Butler, Pearson, Akabeuze, and Boyce. Lovan is listed as a hard commit. Is that correct?

Lovan signed last Wednesday. Of those 7 returning players, Reynolds is the only one not on scholarship. Gives us 11 scholarship players. 2 spots to fill.

I like Lovan. Got a big ole chip on shoulder according to his interview after committing.

If the right opportunity presents itself I imagine the scholly of the other walk-on (injured all last season; medical redshirt?) will be given to a newcomer. So, possibly 3 open schollys...

I wish they could do one of the summer trips , so they can start playing together and get the extra practice time.

Let us hope. I wouldn’t be against giving up that spot to a redshirt transfer. With a HS/juco prospect and graduate transfer getting the first 2 spots.

Not normally the case for JUCO xfers. Perhaps there is something about his game that Ehsan likes. After all, we wouldn't know since he didn't play last season due to injury(I suspect he'll get a medical redshirt and has 2 years remaining). Based on his film, he always struck me as a Nick Norton clone...

Justin Coleman is visiting Arizona tomorrow through Friday. Said he would make decision soon when he got home. Article on Arizona 247 board.

Didn't realize he was injured last year.

I may be way off on what I think McCoy can contribute on the court, but I think he’s a locker room guy. For the few early home games we had last season, He was the one breaking the huddle out of the tunnel. Since Brown had graduated, nobody has stepped up to be a leader. McCoy may have the right personality.

Here’s what Coach said on why he rewarded him.

MCCoy is better than folks think. That’s why he is keeping it.

I’d save the last scholly for next year. Roll with what we have unless a starter drops in our lap

We don’t know what we have right now. We need another experienced player, and i hope we find that. Holding that last scholarship could be a huge mistake in my opinion.

McCoy's perception by fans is hindered by three things:

We have not seen him play.

He averaged under 10 points per game at a d2 juco (but admittedly for a good team for that level)

He spent the season sitting next to walk-on / team mascot Hunter Reynolds, who looks like he could be McCoy's twin brother, leading people to wonder why one of them was taking up a scholarship.

Maybe that's why Nick left. He might have wanted to lose the curls and didn't want our bench to look like a screening of Multiplicity 2 .
