At the BJCC board of directors meeting this afternoon... they are expected to select underwriters that will sell the bonds for the $300 million expansion, renovation project

BJCC approves recommendation for RFP of underwriting services... but they didn’t say what the recommendation was. (May have been in finance committee report but couldn’t hear ? most of report)

BJCC board is now approving the funding and project agreement with the city of Birmingham. Funding agreement is executed when they sell the bonds.

Woodfin wants a local firm. I don’t know yet what firm or firms will be recommended.

Al.com article says that "Construction on the stadium is expected to start before the end of the year."

Just a helpful FYI: having the underwriters in place insures all bonds will be sold and the BJCC will officially have the full $300m in place to do the entire renovation and stadium project.

They will start construction before the end of the year or they will have to repeat some or all of the hurdles that were just cleared.

I volunteer to start site grading with my Home Depot shovel on December 31st.

Someone tweeted out a photo of a pallet of cinder blocks and a gravel area just north of the current Uptown parking lot (future location of the stadium). Does this count as starting construction?

You joke, but I'm sure that's not far from the actual plan. I know these days you can do a lot of design as you go, but I doubt they have everything finalized by Dec 31. But, clearing lots, closing and ripping up streets, and having Alabama Power move/bury some lines will probably qualify

I think this is something being overlooked too much. Everyone super excited about the new stadium, but I'm 75% as excited about the new Legacy Arena. Would absolutely love to be hosting NCAA tournaments here.

Design build is not uncommon. That’s how I built Rec Center. Design wise this will be easier than that. I can envision designing the foundations which will be Drilled piers to bedrock and while they are being installed the rest of the structure is being designed.
