NCAA rules say 13 scholarships for men's basketball and 15 for women's basketball. In watching women's teams for years, I can almost never see teams which are using 15 scholarships. Often you only see 10 or 11 girls on a team. Does the MAC have a limit of 13 for girls, or even perhaps an agreement among AD's to only give out 13??

From my own coaching experience, I used to only take 11/12 boys or girls on a basketball team. It is hard to give playing time to more than that. You do need at least 11 so than you can do 5 on 5 work or scrimmage and it is good to have a girl or two to sub in, but 15 does not work out very well.

In general women's basketball seems to have fewer transfers sitting out, fewer discipline or academic casualties. Probably a similar number of injuries. 13 really seems like all the scholarships you really need for this sport.

The 15 limit could be for Title IX considerations, a way to add a few athletic scholarships for women's sports.

Agree 15 is not really workable with too many simply sitting on the bench and not getting playing time.

Toledo has often used all 15, so there must not be any MAC limit. I agree that Title IX is behind the difference between men's and women's basketball scholarships.
