RE: Official AAC Week 10 Baseball Thread
Good week for RPI. Here’s how it stands now waiting on final game of Wichita Houston but that shouldn’t change RPIs too much either way.

1 Houston 9-5 97
1 ECU 8-4 11
3 USF 9-6 25
4 UCONN 7-5 13
5 Cincy 8-7 151
6 Tulane 6-6 100
7 UCF 7-8 47
8 Wichita 4-7 17
9 Memphis 1-11 214

If Houston can keep winning and keep in the top 3 it looks like we could get 6 bids as they have series against ECU, UCF, and UCONN left which will boost them up near respectable territory if they can win a few.

Houston has a lot of opportunities for quality wins. The AAC could very well be on track for 5-6 regional bids. That's crazy good for any conference, let alone one with only 9 teams.

Intensity heightened during Joe Genord’s at-bat against hard-throwing freshman pitcher Gavin Williams with USF leading 3-1 in the top of the seventh inning. There were words exchanged between the two when Genord was out of the batter’s box and the next pitch was sent back to right-center field for a two-run home run.

Genord again took his time getting out of the box to watch the homer and turned around to exchange words with ECU infielders near second base during the home run trot, which brought out Pirate coach Cliff Godwin and players and coaches from both dugouts. The umpires issued a warning to both teams.

“If it was professional baseball, he would have gotten smoked in his next at-bat, but you get ejected and get suspended,” Godwin said. “I wouldn’t let my players act like that, but I’m not the head coach for South Florida. They do what they want to do and we do what we do, but I wouldn’t let my players act like that and we just have to focus on us.”

Karma for USF’s Joe Genord?
USF slugger Joe Genord, who played a role in creating some of the USF-ECU drama, was suspended for five games after the series with the Pirates by the Bulls’ head coach for breaking unspecified team rules.

As always there are two sides to a story, and ECU pitcher had a major role in escalation and jawing back with Bulls bench. Godwin is full of crap b/c he let his pitcher run his mouth just as well. Plus Genrod's mini bat flip was much ado about nothing. Btw, when I coached competitive soccer I would yank my kids if they went overboard in showboating or arguing with an official, so I agree with "playing no the game right" ....but Godwin's player was just as bad as Genrod.

Tighten series as always. Friday's game was a classic.

Either team could have easily swept or been swept the series. Confirms that this is a great baseball conference. Conference tournament is going to a battle royale.

He told him to get in the box, nothing was said to the dugout. Genord proceeded to run backwards for a stretch. The bat flip had nothing to do with it, certainly made it worse but nothing would’ve been said if that was it.

Here’s what happened before the pitch

Doesn’t show him run around like a *******.

Also doesn’t show him tip his helmet to the fans the next day after flying out. Probably why he was suspended, you don’t respond to the fans ever.

Puhleeease about the helmet tip... It was the perfect response to a hostile crowd, who booed his every at-bat. It's not like he gave them the finger.

I mean as a coach you can’t have your players responding to the crowd. It’s small time. I’m not saying he was showing anybody up.

Unless UCF gets their act together or wins the conference, they won't be going to the tournament.

Way too hot and cold and those damn midweek series against the likes of Chicago State aren't helping.

This is a Bautista 2015 ALDS-level bat flip.

I have no doubt that the chatter from the WSU dugout prompted that home run trot. They did it when they came to ECU too.

Wichita was respectful to us, fwiw. Not sure what happened at UCF and ECU
