RE: Bball teams you'd like a series with
We have been snakebit in the "are they good mid major lottery". Chattanooga had a string of good years and we get them in a down year. Stephen F Austin was strong for several years except the two years we played them. As soon as they are off the schedule, they go back to having a great season. Same with Illinois State a few years back.

Its a crap shoot with mid majors. We have had some good luck in the past. We caught VCU and Butler the years they surprised everyone by going to the Final Four. No one would suspected that when we scheduled them.

I'm sure there would have been complaints if we had scheduled Maryland BC or Illinois Chicago this year because no one knew about them.

It takes skill and connections to put a schedule together but a lot of it is luck

If I’m being greedy: Dayton, Cincy, Xavier, Ohio St, and if it’s on a Saturday/Sunday, Louisville and Kentucky.

Realistically: New Mexico, Vandy, Davidson, Northern Iowa, and Rhode Island

What is wrong with you people?

I would take each of those teams in a heartbeat over Lemoyne-Owen, Mississippi College, MVSU, etc.

Exactly!!

Bingo...UAB is a mid-major and playing a quality mid-major non-conference schedule helps (most years) with RPI, attendance, etc...oh yeah UAB fans don't support the good teams we do schedule right?...maybe it has something to do with our current state of affairs and where the basketball team/conference has fallen to because it wasn't always like this...nobody is saying don't try and schedule the best teams possible just do better than Miles, Lemoyne-Owen and a PILE of SWAC bottom feeders...the way things are being done now is NOT working at so many levels...and always question anyone that ALWAYS supports the status quo

Every team plays a couple of cupcakes. We are realistically looking at only 6 games to make an improvement on.

Don't play anyone whose average RPI was below 240 for the past 5 years, and our SOS will rise dramatically.

Yep, and that’s 100% to be expected. I actually have no issue with playing a d2 school the first game if it keeps a swac school off the schedule. We have so much garbage in conference at the moment that we can’t afford to play five teams OOC with rpi’s over 200.

Because of the conference garbage, it doesn't matter how many teams with bad RPIs you play. A conference tournament win is what is needed, not strength of schedule.

Scheduling at this point should accomplish two things
1. Get fans in the building. Playing top notch mid majors want do that. Playing P5 teams, even those at the bottom will. But they won't come to Bartow.

2. Getting the team ready for March. Who that is depends on how experienced your team is. Last year it should have been better teams than was scheduled. I suspect this year, due to our youth, it should be teams they can gradually build their confidence up.
